  1. I've been getting FBV 100/75 for a while now. I used to skate on ROH 7/16. IMO, the bite of 100/75 feels very similar to 7/16, but with much more glide
  2. Just got new Step Steel and want to know If I should have them profiled or not. For people who have skated on them, do most keep them stock or get them profiled? Per JR and I think one other post I read, Step Steel were designed to be profiled. So is it not a good idea to keep them stock? Also I'd like to get some clarification on the stock profile/radius as there have been contradictions all throughout this thread. Some saying Radius is 9', some say 10, 13' etc. See the below quotes. ACE22QC supposedly works for STEP and posted that it is 10'. Does anyone know if this is true? And is the pitch slightly forward or not?
  3. 3/8 ROH and 100/75 FBV have the same speed? I was under the impression the FBV would be more
  4. What area exactly are you not seeing improvement in? Going from 1/2ROH to 100/50FBV, the only improvement should be glide, correct? And I don't think getting a bad sharpening would reduce this extra glide. A majority of bad sharpenings would just give you uneven edges, causing instability on edges, correct?
  5. Interesting quote from Pens EQM. Said few players used it before but no longer do. Dana Heinze ‏@RealDanaHeinze 24 Mar @dweb012 We do use FBV We did have a few players on it. Now only Matt Cooke@ 100/50. Again it's all up to the players -
  6. I wasn't emphasizing the importance of the opinion of the equipment manager as to which sharpening is better. What I meant by that was, it would be nice to here more from them on how many players on their NHL team use ROH vs FBV. Currently I know of 2 that commented on this, and both said only 1 player from each team is on FBV
  7. No concern, I was just curious, that's all. Two teams is a small sample size and I'm sure other teams have a greater number of players using FBV. It'd be nice to hear that from a specific team's trainer/Equipment Manager. For me personally, I found 100/50 FBV has been inconsistent, the first couple times it was great and had just enough bite and superior glide. The next 2 times it felt like I had no bite at all and I kept falling. I think this was due to the sharpener though, as i go to Total Hockey and someone new does them every time. I just tried 100/75 and while it provided a good amount of bite, I didn't feel the glide benefit that I did with 100/50
  8. Yes but how many/percentage on teams? Penguins equipment manager said the only player on the PEns was Matt Cooke at this time. Someone on here said only one player from the Capitals.
  9. That sharpening list the person referenced is from 2009 when Crosby was at 7/16 http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/49687-penguins-skate-sharpening-chart/
  10. Is this the picture? You cant tell it is FBV http://i1307.photobucket.com/albums/s588/sakas1/IMG_1540_zps83e4f384.jpg
  11. Here's the vid. He mentions Crosby is on 1/2ROH, so no FBV for him http://youtu.be/2vH0JpUByQ0
  12. So this equipment manager on the Penguins has a twitter account and posts numerous pictures of him sharpening their skates. Can you tell by looking at the equipment if any of the Pens are using FBV? 13. Just got mine in the mail and it seems like a waste because of how inconsistent it was. Well actually im probably just using it wrong. The following 3 pictures were taken one after another on the same part of the blade. I secured it on the blade tightly and placed the magnet on right in the middle each time. But each time the reading was different... http://imageshack.us/a/img546/3369/imagepoe.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img132/9768/imagereg.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img9/475/imageuyf.jpg
  14. Ya maybe as I crashed into the boards once. I would try 95/75 but I called Total Hockey and they don't offer that. I also called Perani's and they only have Blademaster. I may go the custom profile option at Noicingsports and future sharpenings there. Hopefully the shipping process isn't inconvenient. Why do you say you were surprised you could stand. Is Step Steel not a good steel? Whats a quality steel I could order from NoIcingSports for my Bauer Vapor x7 skates?
  15. I have no idea when it opened. There is Pure Hockey at NEville and Bridgeville. Total Hockey at Cranberry and Robinson. So far I got the FBV sharpened at Robinson. A good skate but my inside edge was nicked up pretty good after the skate
