Personally if the skate was that compromised I would just replace with one that isn't.- 2855 replies

Custom Skates / Ice to Inline Conversion

Got my first skate in on these last night. Feel pretty good so far. It will be nice once the boot breaks in a little more. Skates felt fast. Wheels felt a little slick but I don't know if that's due to the hardness change or just new wheels that need a skate or two to break in. I definitely felt like it was easier to go fast- 2855 replies

Really looking forward to trying these out. Hopefully will make my game tonight to give them a go. I'm going to see how they are right out of the box with no bake. If all goes well I'll just break them in the old fashion way. I'm hoping they feel good quick given I'm already skating in essentially the same boot. I was on the edge about buying all new wheels but have been wanting to try the rinkrats so I caved and just got a full set. I've been skating on a mix of grip+ addictions and RPGs which has worked ok but I think at 74a the RPGs are really too soft for me. I'm hoping to pick up some speed with these not only from proper hardness but also moving from hi-lo to the hum'er frame.- 2855 replies

I did use a shim in the rear to give my heel a little lift. Felt back on my heels when I had them done. I didn't use one with my Supreme conversion on the same chassis though. I think the only reason I used it was because I mounted the chassis a little too far forward. I prefer to have the chassis mounted back a little so that I'm more over my toes. Just personal preference.- 2855 replies

You'll want to have the center line of the wheels fall where the original runner lay. To me this is the most tedious part. I'm not sure if it has to be exact as I try to make it but I'm really OCD so I take a lot of extra caution to make sure it ends up being perfect. Here are a couple pics I found of the X5.0s I had done previously. It was a super light and stiff skate which I liked but my foot just can't do the Vapor boot shape. I got started on my Supreme One.8 setup that will be replacing my One80 setup. Those will be retired to outdoor/backup for now on. I'm hoping it isn't too awkward having the old pair on a hi-lo chassis and the new ones on a Hum'er frame. After trying the Alkali skates I've been sold on the straight frame. I'm really excited to give these a run. Now I'm just trying to decide what I want to do for wheels. I've been wanting to give the RinkRat splits a try so I might make the jump vs the Addiction/RPG setup I'm on now. I'm also hoping that making the channel in the boot for the second wheel isn't too much work. I know tons of guys have done it vs. using lifts.- 2855 replies

Found a shop online with brand new 2012 model hum'er frames for $50 so I snagged one. I have to get a few more rivets out and then my boots will be ready for the new frames when they come in. If this goes well I might order an extra frame to keep on hand for a future pair. When I tried out my alkali skates I was really happy with the way the all 80 wheel setup felt so I'm eager to have these done. If I get lucky the frame will show before the weekend and I can get them done before a game next week.- 2855 replies

I like that they went back to black skates. Funny thing is I still don't like anything Mission has put out in the last few years compared to the look of the really old stuff. I remember wanting sins proto vsi team skates bad and also the wicked lights. I'd love to see those come back with current technology.

They are on here from time to time I think. I'm trying to find someone that has maybe leftover stock of an older model frame. I'm not looking to spend $160 on the current eviction frame. For half that I can go to a Vanguard hi-lo frame which is what I'm currently using. I think eBay might have what I'm looking for.- 2855 replies

Currently looking for a fair priced labeda hum'er frame to mount on my one.8s that will be here Wednesday. I'm looking forward to a fresh pair of skates. I agree with above that you really have to like this because it's not a quick process at all and you need to be pretty meticulous if doing it yourself to make sure things end up identical for both skates. The reward is worth it though.- 2855 replies

The X5.0 will work perfectly. If you go back several pages I actually converted a pair. These do have a composite outsole and will be fine. I only didn't keep them because my foot can't do the Vapor boot.- 2855 replies

For the reasons above is why you typically don't see too many conversions done on skates that don't have a composite outsole. I know it's been done a bunch of times but it's not exactly ideal. I just ordered a fresh pair of last years Supreme one.8's that I'll be converting in the near future. Have to thank 4th of July sales. That is what I'm skating on now and it's the only skate I've tried that feels like it truly fits my foot. I'm currently using a mission hi-lo chassis but I'm really tempted to make a jump to a Labeda hum'er frame. I'm trying to decide if I think it's really worth it or just try and find a magnesium hi-lo. I've skated a couple times in an all 80mm wheel frame and definitely liked it a lot. None of the weird feeling that a lot of people report.- 2855 replies

No addictions on asphalt. I was going to my local outdoor rink to shoot and forgot to change the wheels. There was no aggressive skating done on them, just rolling around. I wouldn't do that to a set of addictions.- 2855 replies

^I was hoping you were going to say the one in Sterling, VA. I'm down in Richmond and it's the closest big hockey store to me. I did the last conversion myself and haven't had any issues at all after 6 months. Hoping to be back in here soon with some new skates. I had recently picked up a set of the Alkali shift skates and while they skate really nice the heel area is giving me problems already. I took a gamble on these and lost. I've got them up on ebay and hoping to move quick so I can get back in something that works. If I can't get my money back out of them I might yank the frame off and keep it. This is my current setup that has been working pretty nicely. Supreme one80's, Hi-lo vanguard frame, Labeda RPGs up front, Addictions out back, Bones Reds bearings. I bought the boots off ebay for real cheap several months ago and got lucky that the Supreme line is perfect for my foot. These were pretty well used when I got them so I just really want a fresh pair. Plus after skating the Alkali's I'm sold on the straight frame. I felt like I had much better pickup with the all 80s. I'm going to start keeping an eye out for some new one.7s or one.8s. I'm planning to just grab last years closeout stuff.- 2855 replies

On both pairs of skates I've done all of the holes up front have been redrilled as they line up completely differently. Out back several of the holes are close and I want to say one of them on the inside of the foot actually overlapped the existing hole. In this case I basically just made an oval hole. Not completely ideal but I haven't had any issues yet. One of these days soon I plan to fill the old holes with epoxy. For now they are just open. I check them out before every game and so far no issues with anything coming loose. I've tried on quite a few pairs of skates and can't find a currently available roller boot that's as comfortable for my foot as the Supremes and that's using a used pair of skates from someone else's foot. I can't wait to see how they do when I buy a brand new pair.- 2855 replies

You could sometimes get close in the rear and possibly reuse one hole. I've done two conversions and in both cases had to drill all new holes. I haven't had any issues so far- 2855 replies

Just finished these tonight. These will be replacing the Vapors I previously picked up. Vapor boot just didn't work for my foot. I'm really hoping these will. I opted to mount the boot a little more over the toes this time as that was something that felt off about the Vapor setup I made. Bauer Supreme One80 that I scored off eBay for under $75. They show obvious cosmetic wear but other than that in pretty good shape. If these work out well I plan to but a brand new pair in the near future to convert again. If these don't work out I think I just can't wear Bauer boots. So far just tossing them on my feet they feel better than the Vapor boot and just looking at the heel area it shows a little more room which is what I really need. I'll be trying them out Wednesday night.- 2855 replies

Just scored a pair of Supreme One.8 off eBay for real cheap. They have some cosmetic wear but for the price I won't complain at all. I'm hoping these will be better for my foot than the Vapors I have now. I will eventually buy some skates brand new once I find what works for me but for now I'm happy paying 20% of the original cost to try some new skates out. I'm hoping to pull off this conversion a little more quickly than the last and going to try and mount the chassis so I'm a little more over my toes than the last pair.- 2855 replies

^those look awesome. I'm wondering if the supreme line of boots wouldn't work better for my foot. From the sounds of it they would but that doesn't mean the heel pocket is much better. I ordered myself a bunga pad for my right foot to see if it helps. If it doesn't do much good I think I will be selling these skates as trying again with something different.- 2855 replies

I had another game last night and while I feel like I'm a lot faster and have a much stiffer boot on my foot the discomfort in my heel is starting to bother me more. I did some looking and this seems to be what people often refer to as the "bauer bump" or Haglund's deformity. I feel like I'm already at the early stages and it's not getting any better. It seems like the boot fits my foot very well but it's something in that heel area giving me lots of irritation. My previous Tour skates did not do this at all and I was at a point where they were very comfortable and I could skate for hours in them. At this point I'm almost tempted to just stay in them. I'm loosing some performance but at least my feet aren't killing me. My concern is that even if I go try on a bunch of different skate I don't think I'll know about this irritation until I actually start to skate. Just trying the Bauer's on my feet feel great. Could some of it simply be the pitch of the boot and and not being over my toes enough like my current skates?- 2855 replies

Skated in these Saturday morning and made a few changes that helped. Heel lift was awesome and then I also put some foam tape under the heel of my insole and I think it got the pitch just right and they feel more natural. I'd still like to reposition the chassis back so that I'm more over the front wheels but it would require putting another set of holes in the outsole and I think it's just too much. I'm making a note to do that on the next pair. These were my trial skates and started as a used pair. I'd like to get some new skates early next year and the Supreme line is on my list. They were actually higher on my list than the vapors but the deal on the vapors was too good to pass. One other thing I tried and that seemed to fix my heel lift issue was skating barefoot. Seemed to work like a charm. No slipping heel and no real discomfort. Didn't think it would work so well but it seems to be great.- 2855 replies
