  1. So I'm thinking about ordering another pair and just want a couple opinions if you guys' dont mind. So the several months I've had my skates I've had to lift the tongue up to lace them, as my foot is right at the top of the boot like the picture below. I'll lace them underneath and then pull the lace over the tongue. That's why I was thinking about ordering a thinner tongue but just now realized I may need a little bit of a deeper boot instead (yes I'm slow when it comes to skates). Is this normal for most people, due to the wrap of the skate, or do I actually need a deeper boot? I've read something about having to heat up the eyelets but I'm clumsy as hell and don't want to overheat the skate. All I know is that I've enjoyed these skates a lot, but this is one of the minor complaints I have. My first goal in getting this skates was to eliminate the pain I was having in my right foot, which made it almost impossible to play hockey. That is done so now I'm looking for some minor comfort and performance updates. I'm thinking about using my old tracings, since it was only last August, and making some updates. Those updates would be rust-coated eyelets, the regular standard tongue, built in shims (I overpronate ALOT and use motion control shoes), and minus the built in shot blockers as IMO they're not needed for the level I play.
  2. Anyone here have to order the thinner tongues after starting off with the metatarsal guard ones? How much are the regular tongues? Did you just email Rob? It's probably back in here but I don't feel like going through 73 pages lol. Thanks.
  3. I hate the Bruins but those Krug Warrior's are beautiful. I'll be surprised if he doesn't make Team USA.
  4. L-O-V-E the color scheme on that. Reminds me of the White Reeboks. Always one of the best looking skates IMO
  5. Adam14 is saying that any custom skates are considered "pro-spec" and "pro-stock". The only reason we don't refer to all VH skates as pro-stock is because the feet from which they are molded are not all professional hockey players. Orland refuted this, saying that just because it's a custom skate doesn't mean it has pro-level stiffness and features. I agree with the latter.
  6. And I'm the one diagnosed with OCD... In all seriousness, I love those Caps colorway gloves. Where did you find them? Wouldn't drop a ton of cash on it but when I'm up for a separate pair I'd like to get a Warrior AX1 like Matt Niskanen uses.
  7. I would think that there is no comparison. Retail skates can only be so moldable. Not to knock on David Clarkson but if they did "lose him" I doubt they're feeling it much lol. Of course its always good to have as much NHLers in their skates as possible, but would be more concerning if Pavelski/Byfuglien/Pirri stopped using VH.
  8. I would send them back if that was me. I love my VH skates but if I'm paying that much money for hand-made skates, they better not be problematic performance wise. They are very accommodating to issues, especially since those eyelets and the tendon guard look atrocious. Send em back.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you not supposed to dry skates in the Rocket Dryer? I've never done so but I thought I read it can ruin the integrity of the boot. Same with gloves. I use two of these to hang my skates upside down from the holders. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Tornado-30-lb-Steel-Ladder-Hook-48044/202639949
  10. Interesting tidbit is that @Bjugstad moved from a Mako II as evidenced by the holder. Brandon Pirri uses VH and also plays for Florida. Putting the good word in? Seems like alot of these STX/TRUE/Warrior guys going VH.
  11. So this is probably more directed at people who use shoe horns or have knowledge of them. When I'm putting on my skate with a shoe horn, do I still need to rotate the skate to the side and then slide my foot in, like shown in this video: Or does the shoe horn eliminate the need to do so?
  12. Makes sense for VH to do so, though. Wouldn't surprise me to see a lot of Warrior guys in them this season, figuring they don't make a skate. I like the logo personally.
  13. Inb4 the "can VH pay for him to NOT wear their skates" comments Wideman is a nice addition. Hopefully it catches on in Calgary... I could see Hudler wearing them since he's an STX athlete. Don't think Gaudreau and Monahan obviously
  14. Sounds good! Thank you!
  15. I have the SOLE Thin Sport footbeds which I actually haven't tried much on ice, but while standing on them feel really comfortable. Do you recommend I put them in my skates on the first baking, or use the footbeds they provide? I think I may stick with their footbeds since its already traced on my foot. I feel like if I put a footbed in that gives me more arch support, wouldn't it alter how my foot sits in the boot and decrease some of the customization? May be a dumb question. I'm really looking just to add shims to decrease my pronation. I actually had to have another person help me try and get it on. Just wanted to see how it felt pre-baking, so I can see the difference it makes. I'm getting them baked on Monday
  16. I definitely like the look. Just some loose stitching and glue which isn't THAT big of a deal. I think with the JR sizing now in place though they should improve the presentation. Put it in a bag and "buff" it out for the kiddies. @Optimus, that's the first thing I noticed when I put the skate on without it being baked even. Amazing. Do you guys think it defeats the purpose to put in a SOLE footbed in the skates?
  17. Just got my skates! Have to say I'm kind of disappointed in the presentation. Lots of epoxy and material hanging off. They didn't even put it in a bag. Just threw it in a box and stuck a label on it. Was expecting more for this price point but as long as it's not structural I guess it'll be OK. I did try them on before I baked them. Impossible to get the laces on because there is soooo much wrap, so hopefully the problem subsides when they are baked. It does say to bake them before even trying them on, so not surprised I can't get them on without it. I'll keep you all updated and see if I can figure out how to post photos. When I did get them on without the tongue and laces I don't feel ANY pressure point on my haglunds which is absolutely fantastic. Just a bag next time please lol
  18. Looks like overnight shipping. Estimated to be here on Wednesday. Does indeed ship from Winnipeg. Can't wait!
  19. Coated eyelets as in to prevent rust? Damnit.... If I like them enough and they start to rust I guess I'll just order another pair or request if I can buy them then. They actually just sent me an email that it is being shipped, I'll update on time for US folks. I live in Virginia so East Coast.
  20. Awesome, thank you! I figured it was overnight shipping or 2-3 days so hopefully that holds up.
  21. Anyone know what shipping VH does to the states? How long it takes from shipment? A little over two weeks and mine haven't shipped just eager to get on the ice.
  22. It's really as simple as going to your LHS and having the runners profiled. That's what I do, and there is no tinkering with heel lifts. The only downside is you have to do this every time you get new steel If he plays travel or goes through steel quickly heel lifts would be best though.
  23. I like my skates extremely tight so I'll be using wax still with my VH when I get them.
  24. Not sure if drunk or tired.... Haha How many eyelets do you have undone? Definitely do not squeeze your foot in there. It will prematurely break down the heel and you could have some major issues. It may sound inconvenient but you may want to try just unlacing to the last 3-4 eyelets. I used to do this with my Supremes and sat with my skates untied for 15 or so minutes. Your foot swells up as the day goes on and it's good to let it set in the boot before tying anyways (in my opinion). I've always felt more comfortable doing this It could be a superstition but it works for me.
