  1. Hi there. Got rid of the waverness as per my post above. Doing slower and steadier passes which helped massively. Also doing passes from the heel and for me it works better. Have another topic which want to ask about… Came upon goalie skates with 4mm blades. Very difficult to sharpen on my X02. Had to adjust a lot and use more of the wheel than normal. Just wondering if someone with more experience can give useful tips on goalie thick blade sharpening procedure. 1. Which wheel to use? 2. Do you normally apply more pressure than on player skates? 3. From your experience does the central knob normally need to be adjusted forward or back? Thank you.
  2. Spinners are 1 year with the occasional use.
  3. Step steel black and normal. LS4, LS3, LS2, any others as I am doing my team mates as well. Do not get me wrong. I do get a decsent finish but never a mirror like.
  4. Using Blackstone oilshine. Slow-slow final pass, light touch. In fact sometimes two passes as still have waves after the first one....
  5. Hi, there. I know it has been discussed before but still... Is mirror like finish achievable on X02 at all? What do our experts can say? Looks like no matter what I try I can not get the finish as good as it is done on the professional machines... The glide is good.I am talking about visible part. Just need to know so I can let it go or continue my quest for the perfect mirror finish-)).
  6. Thank you, trtaylor! Tried it and it does look better. Will try to perfect it now....
  7. Thanks, trtaylor. Yes, it is subtle mostly. The spinners are quite new as I have 5 of them and use them occasionally. And bought the machine less than a year ago. Tri-lie felt pad is also clean and I use Tef-Top puck. As for the wheels my favourite is ruby. Pink is to "gentle" and orange is too "rough"-))). But closer to the end the wheel lifespan "waveringness" gets worse... Again, with the last pass you go against the rotation then? So, different direction to the sharpening process? Hmm... need to try this... Yea, I guess it is a combination of different issues and go out with the experience...
  8. Hello, there. Sorry if it was already discussed here but still. Have Blackstone X02 - quite happy with it. Doing blades for my family and friends. What bugs me though is the "waveringness" on the blades after my passes. I mean when you look at the blades after finish you can see like small waves on the bottom of them. Not like it bothers me a lot but still... I can only suspect it is either due to the small radius of wheel (4') or I should press harder. But any comment from more experienced people appreciated. And the other thing is final polish. Some of the guys achieve like a mirror finish after their final pass which looks awesome. I can not get it with Blackstone fine shine. Probably someone can share a secret which lube to use? Thanks for all your help. It is a very useful forum.
  9. Hi,there. Need a piece of advice... Tempted to buy a pair of RPD Max+ for my 9 years old boy. Currently he is on Bauer X300 (size1) inline and Bauer X800 (size 1,5) on ice. Complaining that X300 are uncomfortable and too soft. Is upgrade worth it (400 Dollars)? Should size 2 be ok? I understand that kids feet grow fast and do not worry about that. My question is if he feels and skates much better than in X300? Or can you suggest other options then? Thank you.
  10. Chiefs, in theory yes. But talking to the professional sharpener who is doing FBV for ages. He advises vice versa do the Pitch knob and do not touch the others when you calibrated them. Works for me much better than adjusting the sides.
  11. Hi, have been following this post for a while and finally decided to participate. Was thinking of joining Blackstone army for a year or so. Bought my X02 two week ago. BTW, Josh from Blackstone was extremely helpful and positive. I guess, he was the main driving force behind my decision to jump into it. No regrets so far. The machine is fantastic. It took me, of course, one set of discarded blades and one orange wheel to learn the technique. (at the beginning I was even sharpening in the wrong direction-). Ruined my first hockey training on the new sharpened blades as was falling all the time. Was a laughing stock of the team. But now after two days of extensive self training and video studying can say I am confident enough to do the skates of my team mates. The machine is easy to operate and I am very happy with the sharpening quality it provides. (And I know what I am talking about as I had to send my blades for FBV to another country to get the perfect sharpening I want). Now just some small questions. 1. What is your opinion on a pink wheel comparing to orange? I personally liked pink more as it gives better finish and does not take off as much metal as orange does.... Though some people say that it is too soft and it can burn your blades. 2. I sharpened Bauer Supreme skates of my friend and to make the edges even I had to do 15 pitch clicks between right and left skate. Is it normal? Or the blades are twisted? He enjoined the result (and he is not new to FBV) but still.... 3. I am on 90/75 now and quite happy with it (the edges are fine and the glide is good) but as usual want to try something more and go shallow end. Would you say 85/75 should be the next step then? Thank you for all your help. Apology for the grammar as English is not my first language.
