  1. I know, everyone is sick this time of year...so venting about a cold is kinda, well...whiny, to be honest....

I seem to have gotten past the worst of my symptoms in the past week....except for this ONE damn thing. I have the feeling that there is something lodged in my throat!!!!! My breathing is not impeded at all....I can't wash anything down, I can't bring anything up.

Surely it is just iritation from the amount of violent coughing I've done in the last 3-4 days, but holy hell....it is annoying!

  2. Not my "Sweet Spot" moment...but tonight a the Bulldogs game (as seen from my perch in the Press Box):

There was a puck out of play that struck a young fan in the Bulldogs end. I don't think he was badly hurt, but obviously somewhat shaken. During the TV timeout, while he was being attended to by Security, Medical and his father....Bulldogs goalie Robert Mayer skates over to the glass...gets his attention and passes his stick over the glass to him, then skates across to the bench, gets a new stick and goes back to the crease. Everyone in that section, and everyone who saw it gave them both a pretty good ovation.

Classy move by Mayer...and that kid will remember that for a long time after the bruise is gone . At that point we had Mayer tagged as the 2nd Star (34 saves in a 3-1 win)....we thought about moving him up to Number 1, but we were over ruled by one of the other Press Row guys.

  4. So we'd be trading "....indecision, poor game management, and fear" for "...indecision, poor game management, and fear"

The biggest difference I see is that the Bears have played meaningful games in December, made the playoffs (or been very close) and have actually played in a SB in the last 13 years. All things I can't say about Buffalo...so, he has had a certain amount of success in the League.

  5. I've had different people tell me different things about that. One guy said drain the gas and store it empty, another said to leave gas it it to avoid any dirt/debris build up. I've always left gas in it...this is the first year I've had problems...it's an old machine anyway, I got it from a friend for nothing....it really doesn't owe me anything at this point.

I'm just glad it only took some time and a $6 can of Carb cleaner....anything more than that in parts would not be worth it.

  6. After a brief lesson in small engine repair from my neighbour and a couple days of fussing, spraying, wiggling (cables and wires...not me) and cursing...I got the damn snow blower to start. Unfortunately, I had already done most of the shovelling by hand...because I didn't want to risk not having any day light left if it didn't run...but I did have it for the path down the side of the house to the back door...which would have sucked to do by hand.

But, as a Man vs. Machine moment...I get the point and that's all that matters!

  7. Not hockey equipment, but I've finally found a Leafs hat I actually like (man, whats up with hats now? They're all AWFUL)

Team wise, I hate that hat...but design wise....I like the white stitching on the back/sides...but the frort would be nicer if it didn't have the 2 white stripes Blue stitching on the front.

  8. Good move getting checked; glad it wasn't serious, just a shaving injury.

this time it's a shaving injury...in the past it's been a "box picking up injury" and a "fell sleep on the couch injury" ...If it were just the pain without the giant freaking knot in my back I would have been far more concerned initially...but I can feel the knot, and it's happened before, so I was fairly sure what it was.

The description was dead on for a cardiac event. Sharp pain between the shoulder blades and feeling like someone is sitting on your chest. Glad to hear it was muscular but keep an eye on the blood pressure. I ignored those borderline high readings and it almost cost me.

The BP is a bit alarming...especially after all the years of my Mom warning me to eat better, drink less. Mom's family has heart history....Dad's side tends to live forever. Guess I got more of Mom in me.

  9. Not to scare you but that sounds like a cardiac event. Please get yourself checked.

Well...decided to err on the side of caution. Went to a clinic. They said it was not a cardiac event....although I do have higher than normal BP. She said it is muscular and likely brought on by the amount of time spend at a computer every day. She gave me Naproxan as an anit-inflammatory.

I also got a list of Dr's taking new patients...guess it's time I get checked out more thoroughly.

Thank you for your concern...and scaring me enough to make me go to the Dr.

  10. Ya know every now and then you hear a story about a guy put in the DL because he got hurt doing something totally pedestrian to his sport, like eating pancakes or sneezing???

I pulled a muscle in my back (between my shoulder blades) while I was shaving last night....OH MY GOD this hurts! Couldn't find a comfortable sleep position last night....and the way the pain was shooting around into my neck/chest it felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Icing it now...and hoping my chiropractor has an open spot for some treatment.

Guess I won't be getting any of that work done in the yard today (but maybe that part doesn't need to be part of the vent.)

  11. So, thoughts that this will be linked to either drug use (I always thought of Jr. as a squeaky clean player to look up too) or post concussion or trauma issues?

[EDIT]: The way they were talking on the radio, they are definitely suggesting that there were post concussion or trauma issues. Can anyone more familiar with his career recall any major concussion history...or are we to assume he was "playing through it" and being a good, tough NFLer.

To this point, (and I mean no disrespect to any of the dead) it has been predominantly role players, 4th liners etc...Is this the first real super star, former/retired athlete death?
