  1. I don't see that happening, replacement parts are exempt from patent protection, e.g, same as auto parts.

This kinda makes a lot of sense actually........Well I sure hope Step can do it. It sure would be nice to keep going using there products at all times!

One, I have been told, they will enforce.

Jimmy Makes a lot of sense on this one here.......I wonder how they can do that when they havent on any others???

  2. I do not think it would be fair of me to make a comment on another Pro Shop's policy. Myself I would sell you sharpened steel, however I would highly recommend getting them profiled as even though Step is far better and usually bang on from one runner to the next they are never 100%! For myself to ship to the US is much to costly i feel for the customers. That is why I mainly only do Pro and NCAA players blades because the team or school pays for the shipping. If you were to order 3 sets then maybe it would be worth it.

Maybe have a talk with the boy's there I am sure you can all work something out?

  3. Speaking of my earlier issues, I recently had a *terrific* set of FBV sharpenings (100/50) at the National Sports at 1770 Dundas East in Mississauga, at the hands of Paul D. and the recommendation of our own pmurphy17 -- with ZERO guff about FBV and goalie skates. If you're looking for a good FBV sharpening near Toronto at a very reasonable rate, check them out.

wonder where he got that idea from?

  4. Just bought some Bauer Vapors for my mite son (size 2) about a month ago...He was on Reebok.

He skates a lot...about 4-5 times a week. Couldn't believe that the LS2 steel could not go more than 2-3 skates before I needed to sharpen them. Normally the old Reebok steel lasted 5-7 times before it needed to be sharpened.

    Luckily, I have an x-01.

Talked to Midwest skate and picked up some Step steel (220) blades and he tried them out for the first time today. He loved them. Told me that edges felt more solid and turning was better than his old blades. This was with the 10 ft stock profile.

    Glad I made the switch.

Stock Profile on Step Steel is 9-10É or did you have them profiled

  5. Ok, i've just started working in what is kind of an LHS (they try and sell bikes, skate boards, scooters etc. as well) and my god! Apparently they've been on a sharpening training course but i have never seen anyone (except them) man-handle a skate sharpener so much. Instead of going in one direction with the flow of the grind they wheel they just hammer it backwards and forth, the cross grinder has never been used, the blade clamp is never adjusted or checked, they managed to jam the diamond into one set position so you cant choose your grind and they dont check to see if the edges even after the skates are sharpened. Oh and to top it off they charge £7 for this and they literally do a pair of skates in under 2 minutes...

JR, when are you coming to England for a masterclass?

Now that is a great idea doing training over Skype........Hummmm have yo look into trying that.

  6. Wow if your going to Dukes I am sure our Dundas location is not far for you and I know Jon or Mark would gladly do the FBV for you on your goalie skates. I know my Goalie going to Harvard next year is rather upset about not being able to get it down there and may switch skates or cowlings so I can remove blades to send to her.

Let me know if we can help you. And PS we have extra holders for just this issue!

  7. So I decided to give this stuff a try. The package came in yesterday just in time for my game. As soon as I stepped on the ice I felt a difference. I was gliding smoother and my edge control was noticeably better. I'm gonna use it in tonight's game and tomorrow for open hockey. I'm gonna get my skates sharpened tomorrow beforehand, use them w/o the S8-T Fuel and then put some on around the half way in the session to see how much of a difference it really makes. So far I'm liking it.

I would recommend that you do a skate with it on then a skate with out applying the FUEL right after the skate is sharpened and still warm. That seems to work the best for application.

  8. Feedback I am getting is it works best when applied while the blade is hot. Also I apply with the product on a piece of leather and go slowly over the blade. So far its had pretty good results both teams I am working with for the season seem to really like it.

  9.

I wish I only worked with Professionals

    Nice......

(As in the fact that I only use it with the higher level players outside of work as I dont have endless supplies for FREE to use it on all skaters skates).

I guess I need to clarify EVERYTHING I write.

  10. I've never used SK8T fuel but will say most blade treatments work well. The only way to know if it works for you is to try it. Friction reducers do work, they are not "snakeoil", they've been proven over and over.

Oldtrainer guy, why would you say a blade treatment would not work on a Zchannel? I use them all the time on ZC's and they work well. A liquid one would be even better than say a wax type as it could easily be applied inside the channel. Not necessary though for friction reduction, more for snow removal in the channel. But a friction reducer on the outside of the channel would work identical to any other type sharpening.

I don't believe I said it didn't work I believe I said the person on it didn't feel the difference. Now anyone else and I only work with Pros that I use it with and don't tell them I am using it ALL have said they felt the difference. Including some big name NHL guys.

I even tried it on a goalie that didn't have his skate sharpened so there was no heat to allow the SF to get into the blade better and he said on a dull skate it felt like a fresh sharpening but wore near the end of a 2 hour work out.

I know they are getting independent 3rd party testing done so that facts can be shown that it actually does help with glide and corners as it says it does!

  11. Save your money :)

    Really have you tried it?

Ever player I have used it with has noticed a difference but one skating coach. And that person even said with the steel they had (z-channel) that may be the reason and I agree.

Thats from AAA bantam kids to some top NHL players. All said they noticed it after they came off the ice and we didnt tell them it was on the skates before hand they thought I had just done the skates in a different way.
