I agree with JR I am the best thanks JR!!!!LOL

lol, I here you about sucking. It also could be that you had an expectation built up. The best thing you can do is work with it and then make a decision.Ok so now I have customers calling me at home to find out what stores do the FBV.......LOL
I wish I could win the Lottery I would put it in all...LOL!

I am wondering if you accidentally got the 100/75 and not the 95/75.I skated on the FBV for the first time tonight and while I liked the extra glide, I think I need to go back to the drawing board.I was getting WAY too much bite on the edges... It was a lot harder to stop and it felt like the edge grabbed too much ice. On skating exercises such as forward one foot power pulls, I found it very difficult to transition from one edge to another.
I *think* what I am experiencing is too much bite... Almost like I prefer the shallower hollow concept, but don't need the extra bite the FBV provides. Does that make sense? Perhaps I need more time on them, but I felt like I was going to kill myself out there.
I plan to discuss my options with my sharpener tomorrow. I have the equivalent of a 5/8 FBV.
I dont get that feeling at all. I coach with a guy that played for the Flames and he just loves it. He wished he had it back when he played! We were just gliding and talking and I asked how he licked it and we just kept gliding...he started laughing....

Hey OTG,I wouldn't sweat it about network54...it is a dog's breakfast at best. That site regulary trashes kids, coaches, and well everything under the sun.
At various times they have attcked profiling, powerskating/skating instruction, various organisations, getting your kid decent skates...it just goes on and on.
Anyhow, my guy is loving it, and is skating better than ever. Infact, I am on my way to have my skates done.
Keep your chin up!
Must have been your guys first visit to N54 if he thought it a good place to start a discussion thread on this sharpening method OTG. You got off easy, try switching teams as a 10 year old and having adults rip the kid annonomously. My son still comes home from school and asks if anyone wrote anything about him-truly sad. Classmates misguided parents allow their kids to read that site. Parents have challenged each other to fight on that site without the thread being locked. Best to let the thread on N54 die off, nothing positive ever comes from threads there.
The OMHA forum requires a registered nick, far more civil and informative. Some very good sharpeners frequent the Pro Shop forum there-may be a better site to reach hockey parents in Ontario.
The guy who did our skates at National Sports Hwy7-Keele (Concord?)store was knowledgable-followed our blades profile carefully if any Toronto west members are looking to try this cut. I ran powerskating class last night so had a chance to really experiment. Anyone doubting the effect on 'glide' try this; Backwards, seated glide. I thought I noticed the skate glide in my normal stride, definetly feel it one 1 leg elevated glides btw B-lines....but the seated glide frontwards and backwards really shows this cuts impact on drag/resistance.
Well that's really great to hear you liked it. And glad to hear the staff was helpful. If you wouldn't mind passing that on the office via the website that would be greatly appreciated. And please let others know about it and the benefits you have felt.

Had the FBV 90/75 put on my 8090s up in Oakville a few weeks ago. I'm impressed with the glide and edging capabilities on turns, but I've noticedsomething that did not happen with my normal 3/4 ROH. I've skated 3 times since the FBV and the back of my blades seem to fishtail a bit, almost like the back of the blade has no edge at all. Possible that my skating technique has taken off the "75" edge already on the back of the blade or could it be a pitch problem combined with the FBV ?
I just got some Velocity Steps from Bob at the same FBV, so I may change out the blades to see if the fishtailing stops. Not sure if anyone can help, but thought I'd throw this out there.
Lefty, had the same issue on the first sharpening but on the second one it isnt an issue. I believe it may take the 2nd sharpening to have the blades set up properly. I will also have the guys do a couple other passes when changing a sharpening from a "normal" to FBV.

I see what you did, Steve used the same analogy but refers to it on the lower end of the spectrum.Ok guys for real now is there anyone that does NOT like the way this system works? Had anyone of your customers want the old sharpening back?
I want to know getting flack on another board!!!
ANYONE???
I've followed this thread since inception and have yet to see one complaint. The only people have a neutral comment are those that expected more bite and didn't get it, but definitely felt more glide. No increased bite was noticed because of the deep hollow they used on traditional sharpening.
What message board is saying this is a stupid idea? I'd like to read their reasoning. . .
http://www.network54.com/Forum/485659/thre...from+Blackstone
PS dont direct those guys back here....we wouldnt want a gang of thugs messing up the boards here....but listen to some of the garbage these parents spew.
Now just so you know one of my guys at one of our stores was the first person in the thread the rest are just people from the Toronto Area.
maybe some feedback from "PEOPLE THAT HAVE A CLUE" would help these know it all's in the Greater Toronto Area.
Just burns my drawers that they believe a Rocket scientist needs to be working on there skates when it is something that just is common sense more glide you go faster??? DUHHHH
"These guys are running this infomercial on every hockey web site. I would try it except I saw a kids skates needing new steel half way thru last season, he had a National Sport skate sharpening card.
Really, you get skates profiled for $20-30 and then let just any kid at a big box store go at them? Trace your skates profile on a peice of paper, go to hacks for sharpening a few times and then hold the trace against your steel.
A sharpener in the west end is famous for making less steel touch the ice, by mid season he is grinding plastic holders front and back."
This is the best comment so far does anyone have a clue what they are saying??

I got the new sharpening at National Sports in Concord, and I skated on them last night. I definitely noticed a difference.... it seemed like I was carrying speed much more easily without added effort. Sort of like being ten pounds lighter (now only 40 more to go!)Anyway, I don't think I could go back to a regular sharp after playing on this one.
Awesome to hear keep us updated on anything as you get used to it!

I got the FBV with 5/8" edges from Jimmy done by mail. Normally I skate on 3/4" hollow. I was amazed when I skated on them the 1st time last night. Basically one push and you just glide across the ice. The feeling is just smooth and effortless. I'll definitely be sticking with this and the crappy sharpeners in my area just lost my business. So what I am hearing from you guys is....I should have more of my stores with the FBV sharpening?? Who is on the GTA or Ontario???
I can do
London
Barrie
Brampton
Markham (has it already)
Concord (has it already)
Oakville (has it already)
Mississauga (Dundas Location)
Cambridge (coming in Feb)
Whitby (coming in Feb)
And possibly more next year....
Hands up if you want it??
Living in Whitby OTB, looking forward to trying this FBV. My son won't let anyone but Dave at Pro Cut touch his skates-is I convince him to try it we'll take a drive to Markham. The Shwa store isn't listed/....I run ice there weekly.
Well Oshawa wouldnt be getting it unless I find a great deal on a machine somewhere. As for driving to Markham I am sorry about that but ask for Dan, Tim, Joel, Oscar. They are all highly proficient at Sharpening and will do the 100/75 and I will bet he wont want to go back to anything else after that. In fact I have a stack of 10 free ones says so.
Not just the guys doing the job but the fact that this sharpening is just that much better than anyone else can do unless you have this machine.
for any that don't believe being its a box store and all I would say call Glen Sharpley in Haliburton. Former NHL player that has his own shop. If that doesnt convince you nothing will. Quote " I used to skate for an hou take shifts like everyone else. First time with this I was on for the whole hour........and no I mean I never came off I wasnt tired and I am 54." (he may be 53 I cant remember the age exactly).

I don't post here much but I'm really excited. On tuesday I'm gonna drop by the National sports in london and hopefully get a heel lift as well assharpen my skates with FBV. I can't wait to try it out!
Anyone finding the 90/75 not holding the edge after a couple skates? Mine did for like 8 outings but I am hearing of others only getting a couple games......but they liked it???

I am allowed into Canada! My wife works for US Immigration, so I feel safer about it than the rest of the border crossers do.Oh so its her fault I couldnt get a work visa.......LOL
-
Guys, this is getting a bit nauseating. Blackstone cannot control what stores have and do not have the FBV. If you want it in your store, tell your LHS about it.Cant help when its that good...LOL
Best to direct people to there facebook page were the people having it will lest themselves......eh JR?

I'm not sure. I am trying to come up weth a list however it is proving to be quite dificult. Try Bob at No Icing, he is doing it.No IcingYep, bought replacement runners and had Bob do them. I will do the sharpen by mail til I get my machine in the spring. Still deciding if I should get the big or little one.
Something tells me you were a bad boy and are not allowed across the boarder.....LOL Oakville isnt that far away? its only and hour and 10 minutes from Buffalo.......Bob is good but if you feel like going for a drive Oakville National can do them for you.
2 hours 20 minutes round trip, plus some time to sharpen skates is a bit of a hassle, not to mention the gas burned on that drive. I'd be mailing them too in his position.
Are you saying Canada isnt a nice place to visit???? Thats not nice......LOL

SAK,Is there anybody in Vermont using the FBV? Thanks for your help. This looks like an exciting new technology.
Thanks,
Alex
I am not sure if there is but i will get the Captain of UVM on it over the holidays.

You're killing me OTG!Well guess your driving to TO.....lol
-
It will have more of a 1/2 " feel to it but you will fly. It will take you a few laps to warm up to it and then you will be off to the races.Hey Bob,Go to Sorrentino's I think they are doing it.
Steve,Anyone in NY with this yet?
Thanks, Bob
Thanks Steve! Just now I called those guys and they said that they had it in 3/8 and 1/2. What does that equate to? I was expecting them to know a little more.
Now installed at London National Sports and 2 London Knights are now on the 90/75. Came from morning skate and all I heard was WOW this is sick!!!

Bad news. When I got there, they told me they had packed the FBV spinner up. They were too hesitant to keep the FBV spinner and were sending it back.
WHAT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>........I cant believe that......I dont live anywhere near there but I can tell you my guys all love theres.....
Now available in
Brampton
Concord
Oakville
Markham
London

OTG...I think that it won't be long before this becomes a standard request from those who are keen about hockey.I am in Toronto...Markham is the closest for me in the existing list (they need a new 100/75 spinner though). Wishing you could get it to the Yonge and Sheppard location - guessing that they don't have a Blackstone.
Anyhow...had my son try the 95/75 (I think?) when the 100/75 wasn't available. He felt it to be a little too slippery, but I have to tell that I don't think that has ever skated better or more fluidly.
I do have one question for you though about profile: If a skater tends to slip a little in his stride as he reaches the toe flick, is there anything that he could change in the profile, that would help this?
Also, have you noticed any changes to profile that compliment or generally go well with the change to FBV ?
Thanks
Jordan, Replacement is on its way and should be there by Tuesday at 10am! If it was shipped as it should have been....cough cough.....LOL

Had mine done up in Oakville - I normally skate on 3/4, so the closest FBV equivalent was 90/75. I've only skated once, but I concur with your comments about the superb glide. I didn't notice the difference in the cuts and turns though. Thumbs up overall !Did they mark you down in the Log Book for reference?

The McCowan location would be the most convenient for me followed by Yonge and Sheppard. As far as the FBV in general my impression was the glide was fantastic, but I'll need to get used to the edges for turning with the 5/8" that was put on since I usually skate on 7/8. I found that when I went to make sharp cuts and turns where I usually have to dig in a little my edges grabbed the ice a lot more...once I make the adjustment and don't dig in as much I think it'll be great. And if I do head up to Markham for my next sharpening what's the equivalent to 5/8" with the FBV system again? (I believe that's the shallowest that can be done with the system).
If I am not mistaken as the numbers are a little confusing sometimes...LOL I am pretty sure it is the 75/95?
I dont have the chart in front of me at the moment but if you look at the chart on the counter it is the one below the 75/100.
Hamilton is due for a new machine however unless Mcowan gets renovated it is unlikely they will get one there.

As all I do is teach sharpening I would say adjusting maybe something to to do with it BUT the largest problem with new sharpeners is they dont clamp each skate exactly the same way! It does take some practice and I wuld suggest using an old skate.
Clamp the skate in the holder do some passes till the spark looks correct and full and then take it off and re-clamp. and start over!
Feel free to message me. I am sure Steve wont mind I will just bill him for the time...LOL
