The boot is a Regular fit. Can’t squeeze my foot into a tapered boot. No heel lift, toes brush the cap, minimal negative space around my feet. It’s worth noting the laces are almost completely undone and the tongue is pulled way out. Only area that is ‘wide’ is the ankle. The facing of the True boot may appear more snug but it doesn’t move whereas the CCM facing still flexes when I tighten the laces.

Edit, undid the laces on the FT6 to hopefully show the volume a little bit better. Pencil test across the top of my foot and the pen just misses my foot. Same applies to higher up my foot where my ankle flexes. In my eyes, it’s only the upper ankle area where it flares out that is too big. My foot is hugged everywhere else in the boot

They still look really wide to me. But anyway...

My 100ks have WAY better wrap than that and that's only a single bake without any plastic wrap or the likes therof.

Temp and oven time should be part of the equation. I don't think boot height is your issue. You should be able to get ridiculous wrap regardless of height. Whether or not height or wrap is helpful is a separate discussion.

I love this! Bauer clearly put that block in the channel to prevent people from using their old steel. There is no need for a bevel on the blades, there is no bevel on CCM Step steel. It's nice to see people found a workaround so all their old steel won't go to waste.

Have you considered, maybe the block was put there to further stiffen the holder or that maybe it's there as a fix for some underlying issue that crept up in development. Or maybe the center beam wasn't strong enough without the block. I can't wait to hear all the whining about how Bauer won't replace failed holders due to user mods.

If you have a bunch of Edge steel, just have Edge holders installed. It really is that easy.

Curious how much data a retail location has or is provided for stocking.  My assumption is a lot although many companies have data and don’t know how to use it, but this should be pretty trivial.

Our local Pure which serves all or northern Pittsburgh has an interesting stock of sticks.  I would say 60-70% are senior, 70-80% are top line models, essentially no 3rd tiers (like maybe one or two lines might have a handful), 70% righty, and almost nothing other than the obligatory rack of youth Jetspeeds in 40 or lower (so no junior 40 flex which is kind of a sweet spot for 10u to even slight 14u players).  And almost all P92 and P28, which does make sense.

This is just my eye test but when we go in just for fun and my lefty 12u 85 pounder wants to look at sticks, it’s a pretty short endeavor.

Rink pro shops seemed to be better geared toward the youth demographic, which makes sense for them but still, surprising for Pure.  I haven’t been to the one south of the city since they took over a really big private store which used to have about double the stock of everything.

Sounds a lot like the Pure near me in central MA. I'd have better luck finding a baseball bat then I would a 70 flex P90TM.

  4. I tried both the 720 & 910 at PH. I was horribly disappointed with the 720. The helmet would not collapse below 1/3. The liner and padding placement prevented it. I wanted so badly for it to fit too. It had the makings of a great bucket.

I ended up with a 910. Just a much more secure fit than the X. The X never sat right. It's was always moving and I was constantly F-ing with it.

The X was cool to see and try. For the price, I'd pass regardless of fit. If I were going to spend that type of money on a helmet. I'd spend the extra $$ and get the custom version.

  5. I've been using FT6 Pros since June. I recently had one fail. I could feel something was off. When I removed the tape the bottom of the blade (the part that touches the ice) was cracked. The blade felt a little squishy when playing or handling the puck on the back side. Anything off the face felt fine. Buts like 6-7 months playing 2-3 times a week.

Depends on what your definition of P14 is…

•P14 in CCM = PM9: flatter rocker than most.

•P14 in Bauer is a very rockered blade. Closer to P28 style than P92. If you don’t like much rocker run in the opposite direction.

Good point. I assumed he meant the Toews branded P14.

Full disclosure. The P14 I have was modified to flatten out the rocker.

I’m not worried about that. I can get it in my specs atm and it’ll help me not buy a new stick every couple months lol

More open than the 88 but less then the P90TM. The 14 flatter than a P90TM which is flatter than the 28 and 92.

  8. I don't disagree flip. As an adult who doesn't play full contact. Ive made a conscious decision to wear something that may not be the most protective helmet on the market. At my level of play. A hockey helmet only needs to protect me from the basics. Wearing the Tacks X isnt all that different then rolling out there with a Bauer 4500 or a CCM V08. Which a ton of adults do.

FWIW, had I not tried the Tacks X I would have bought another 710 which Ive worn since it's release. Both of which are 1 star rated.

Now if you ask me what helmet I'd put a 13 year old in. That's a completely different story.

  9. So tell me again about these ratings.....

Yes, you can have a concussion if you didn't hit your head directly. While many concussions are caused by a blow to the head, you can also get a concussion from whiplash or jostling. In those cases, the brain slams against your skull, temporarily damaging the cells and causing an inflammation response.

I have had that very thing happen to me. Never hit my head, clearly concussed.

Yea they definitely get the curves and flexes and paint jobs right. My fear is that I’ve heard you’ll buy a ft6 pro or ft5 pro but really get a ft6/ft5 regular or team wrapped as a ft6 pro or ft5 pro. The build codes are so difficult to decode so I don’t blame them. Has this changed? Have you tried checking the codes and weighed your sticks you’ve purchased from HSM recently?

Yeah, I've bought two FT5 Pro pro-stocks in the past 18 months. Not the ones marked NHL Pro, just the regular pro stock.

CCM codes are terrible to begin with. The bar code at the top of the stick from CCM agreed with what HSM labeled it as. One felt almost exact to my retail stick than the other. It looks like the hotel area was beefed up on that one. Weight wise, both were on par with the retails.

I use an 85-95 flex p90tm FT5 pro, FT6 pro, or FT ghost. I almost never see any RH available on prostockhockey or sideline swap and I’ve heard that HSMs are often wrapped lower models unless you get one of their NHL prostocks. I’m building up the acceptance that I’ll be happier just buying 6 custom 90 flex p90tm FT Ghosts and letting those last me almost 2 years. It’s pretty much my dream stick (best blade, best kick point, best shaft shape for me)

I know what you mean. It's like 90% of the CCM market shoots lefty.

I've had really good luck with my HSM purchases. Everything is what I expected when I ordered.

As a P90TM user I find HSM to be the most accurate and consistent at labeling the various iterations. So far no "wtf's" when unboxing.

Do I get comp'd if I hate it... I'd settle for the difference between the X and a 710. Seems fair

Get your check books out boys cuz I'm not loving it, least not right out of the box. It doesn't fit as deep or wrap as well as my 710. Also, I don't care for the adjustment system. I much prefer the system on the older 710's even though mine recently failed. I'm gonna skate with it tomorrow and see if that changes my mind. If not, I'll grab another 710 and flip the TacksX.
