Does anyone else have the retail skates and can check on this? And/or does anyone work in a shop that sells Trues?

This explanation makes sense. Especially given that jrchecker said they called their distributor and other skates had similar sticker.

If that is the case, is anyone else unsettled by this? Only selling full size skates and padding the length out with foam seems weird. Am I over thinking this and a few MMs don’t matter that much?

    Not overthinking.

A half size is equal to 4mm which is pretty small.  Using foam to fill the 4mm space is quite acceptable and will allow a snug fit.

Do you know if any other skate manufacturers are doing this?

Because what Bauer has told you and the individuals at Bauer I have spoken with have told me is conflicting. The people I spoke with specifically told me they are only using a standard Quad 0. I checked all of the Pulse steel we received from size 3-12 and the profile seems to be the same on them all, a Quad 0.

I never said Bauer told me, did I?

  3. Why would you state that when I already confirmed that size 6 runners are profiled to a Quad XS?  Bauer partnered with ProSharp and are profiling runners with Quad profiles based on ProSharp's recommendations of 3XS, XXS, XS for runner sizes 1 through 6 and then Quad 0 on size 7 and up.

    Two questions about these skates:

Is this Pulse steel Quad profile exactly the same as the ProSharp Quad0?

How hard (expensive) is it to change out the tongues on the retail skate?

Depends on the runner length.   My 254 runners are profiled with a Quad XS (6-8-11-12).  Quad 0 is 6-9-11-13 and my understanding is the Quad profile that is on sizes 7 and up.

I found with the lower boot cut and standard eyelets on the Ultrasonic that the newly redesigned tongue doesn't limit forward flex as the previous generation did.

I never had a problem flexing the tongue on the 2S Pro.  My complaint was that the tongue was too thick coming off the toecap.  Took a while for that area to fully compress, but was nice once it finally did.  I went with a traditional felt tongue to see how that compares performance wise.

@SkateWorksPNW can all retailers process full customs? I was told that myBauer is the only choice and now I'm feeling like I was mislead, I was also told that no manufacturer was offering a lower cut boot like the CCM total customs had last year... starting to feel like I got the raw end of the deal on my latest pair of skates

What exactly what/are you looking for?  The majority of people don't need anything more than what you get from MyBauer.

My customs arrived today. Overall nice fit and finish. Disappointed they didn't do them in gunmetal as I requested.

Haven't seen a custom worksheet/excel file in a couple of years.  Was color change an option on there or is just a MyBauer option?  2 different levels of custom.

MyBauer customs came in.  I went with the gunmetal color and a felt tongue.  Fit is unbelievable and finish is good.  It will be a couple of days before I get to skate on them and get my first impression of them on the ice.

An entire thread dedicated to the Ultras. Not a single person talking about the profile they come with...

Top 3 Supreme skates (3S on size 4 and up) come with a Quad 0 profile.  Junior 3S have a 13' profile.

I ordered customs and I was excited to try the quad power profile until I looked over the order form and realized the employee selected no profile on the blades 🙄

They were delivered with a stock 10' profile, I had my own 9/10' profile applied but I will say the steel is significantly better than years past. It's not in the same category as step steel in my experience but the added height, in addition to the titanium coating has greatly improved the stock offering. The steel feels much harder than Bauer steel tends to feel, but in a solid stable feel not harsh. I generally skate on an 11/16" hollow but I'm contemplating going down to a 3/4" the edges seem to have a bit more bite, I'm not sure if that is the titanium coating or placebo but I do think most people would be able to get away with one less hollow on their edges and have the same if not improved performance as before.

Not sure why, but Customs come with stock 10' steel.  If you select customize the steel option for an additional $50 you can choose Quad 0, Zuperior, or a few single profiles. The $50 covers the profile and name/number (if you want it) on the runner.

Toe geometry on stock Pulse TI and LS Pulse is more similar to step and different from what comes on the retail skates.

There’s progress.  Last week I can’t remember which game but a player was down and play was stopped.  You could see two of his teammates’ feet as they stood around him and both were in Trues.  Used to see them here or there but that image jumped out at me.

Not looking to fan the True debate, but I see guys jump into them and then at some point jump out.  There were 3 Bruins players (Carlo, Chara, and Coyle) in them and they all switched out.

If I believed I had a product that was as transformative as their advertisements say, I'd be moving heaven and earth to get it to the market.

On the other hand, if it's just another skate option serving customers that prefer a softer fit, then probably they're banking on people naturally gravitating towards them on their own.

    Marketing 101...

From experience I find the young players want Bauer or CCM because their favorite NHL Player wears them or because their teammate Johnny does.  Older players who have always skated in Bauer or CCM and haven't had any issues tend to stay in that skate.

Mako was a niche skate and True might just remain that as well.

The same issue existed with the Nexus line from Bauer. I don't see this as a reason not to sell a product, just because you will actually have to do a bit of work.

Having to work has nothing to do with it.  My point is you cannot take the same skate and continuously bake it over and over again until someone finally buys it.  There's a point when you'll damage the material and it will break down.

Don't want to take this thread off track but the majority of folks can try on unbaked new skates and determine which one fits and feels better.  Then the molding process makes it fit better and more comfortable.

Yeah, these Trues have their work cut out for them to break into the market. It would be a bummer if they don't sell well because stores don't push a bake as an integral part of the fitting. Ultimately it's on True to get that information out to the public and to the stores that are carrying it. It's definitely a must.

Wonder if there's something in the paperwork saying this much at least. That the skate must be baked for proper fit.

I find big box stores are generally pretty bad with true in general, even at the custom level.

If they need to be baked just to see if it fits then that could possibly deter small shops as well as bigger retailers from carrying them or carrying decent stock.  Why carry a new skate that you might have to bake multiple times before moving it off the shelf or have it sit there indefinitely?

    6 hours ago, Miller55 said:

True ought to be including that, but it seems that there are quite a few areas where the shops are not carrying the TFs, probably out of loyalty to Bauer/CCM and some hesitation to see if there are qc issues with the Trues.

Locally, the best few shops (all smaller) are not carrying the Trues and have stopped doing customs because they were just one headache after another. They stock Bauer, CCM and Graf

Not out of loyalty but strictly economics.  Money in versus money out.  Stores' goals are to stock what sells and then replenish and not tie up money on inventory that doesn't move.  Bauer and CCM own the retail market share when it comes to skates and I don't see that changing anytime soon.  Might be the reason why Warrior has done everything BUT skates.
