Not sure if I'm allowed to link to it, but the release date should be the 28th from what I found on reddit.

While I'm not a fan of hotlinking, posting the date is fine.  Those aren't really secrets, and judging from my current relationship state with that company, it isn't as if I would care much if it were.

I have found in the past when I have layered multiple sheets it allowed more flex and shifting of the shims as compared to a single piece which provides more structrual integrity. If you go with multiple layers you will likely have to bond them together once you find the height you specificaly want and your screws/rivets will also come lose over time due to the stacked materials.

Thanks for your response.  Can't say I've experienced the same thing with any shims I've created as they're shaped and drilled while stacked to maintain uniformity.

    I carry 1/16' and 1/8" LDPE sheets.

  3. For those who have expressed interest in trying it; at some point we may be able to start a Long-Term Review.

I'm hoping to hit the ice next week. As some of you know, my mom is immunocompromised due to cancer and so we've been extremely cautious about us being exposed (and consequently, bringing it back to her) and she's getting another surgery at the end of next week. So I'm looking to go to the rink when there aren't many people there, and that's usually a weekday noon open skate session (which would be the best way to try these.)

I like the way this thread is going so far; there's been very good back and forth discussion.  Keep it up!

  4. Hey all,

We received news yesterday that one of our longtime members, @hellaavangard is currently battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. John’s a great guy who has attended our events and I’ve met up with whenever he and his band are in town.

    He’s posted a GoFundMe:

Does the unique design get them away from the Bauer patent for the Edge holder?

Do you notice the compression when standing or walking with them?

Not that you have the Black Armor version, but does that act the same way all the Black steel does? Does it help on poor ice surfaces like the mirror coating does as well?

I'll let them answer that one.

I haven't mounted them on a pair of skates yet as I'm waiting on a pair to be sent.  However, I attached it a loose LS Edge holder and you can compress it with your hand.

I haven't seen the Black Armour but it sounds like DLC.

  6. I had met the Bladetech team at the PHATS/SPHEM show in Orlando a couple of years ago.  At the time, they had been talking to a couple of equipment managers so we exchanged quick pleasantries and business cards.  Neither one of us followed up, until a few weeks ago when Jeff reached out to me.  We talked over the phone and he decided to send me down a couple of sets to test:

Bladetech has a patent on their "flexible" blades.  The front third of the steel has a different shape than stock steel, which leaves a gap between the holder and the steel.  Here's Bladetech sitting on top of a LS4.

Note that the toe is lower, not just the scallop before the fin:

The premise behind this is that the steel will compress into the holder during push off then releases at the end of the stride.  Bladetech's claim is that it will increase acceleration as well as alleviates pressure on leg joints due to the fact that it can absorb impacts better than stock steel.

Over this weekend I balanced, profiled and sharpened one of the sets.  The steel was extremely consistent in terms of its shape out of the box, as well as blade thickness.

It sharpened well and left a nice finish.  The next step for me is to find a rink to test these out.  For now, I'll try to answer any questions you may have, and @Jeff Azzolin Bladetech will also be monitoring this thread.  Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to review these, and thanks for the MSH logo - that was a nice touch!

There are two templates out there right now.

One from the Icethetics site  site and the other from Chris Creamers site.

So how long 'til a real jersey surfaces?

The team released the home jersey. Whether that’s a placeholder or not, that I’m not sure of.

Thx for the reply. Do you mean they don’t make the black label at all anymore, or just in 1.5?

I think I’ve found some on EBay, but eventually the well will run dry if they stop producing it.

It’s unfortunate because that tape had some serious grip like I’ve never seen in any other brand of cloth tape.

Guess I’ll just have to go back to using wax.

    Check out Sportstape 1.5".

Obviously they wouldn't. My point is simply that the pros will still have access to that quality of steel. Obviously it won't be Step.

Facial? Not privy to the timeline of Mission ice design, but obviously there were some pretty great years all around. But I definitely preferred Mission roller pre 2009 to today's stuff.

Half shields and Concept 2s. They purchased Mission-Itech Hockey.

Maybe without the branding. Not sure but I assume they'll figure something out

Why on Earth would CCM create unbranded steel for LS Edge?

I happen to disagree. Mission definitely had a few bad years, but the last few years before the buyout were great IMO. And I still think that Easton's sticks from 10 years ago are better than Bauer today (although I have had a chance to try the adv yet, but still). The proof, I still play with stealth rs, cx and v9e. My apxs are gone, 1n is gone, 2x pros. You get the idea. Everyone had their preference and I'm definitely a bit salty that Bauer took away mine. They didn't even use Easton's tech afaik. And missions gloves were awesome.

Bauer bought Mission/Itech for IP, facial, baselayer and roller hockey.  Eliminating a competitor was also a bonus.  Mission ice's best days were pre-moving design to Montreal.

Here in metro NYC a few of the rinks are getting ready to reopen. Sport-O-Rama in Rockland county, NY reopens for hockey on July 7. I skate in a Friday Night gang there for over 30 years. I’m going to stay off the ice for awhile before I rejoin the group. I’m close to the at-risk age group. Also I have returned to work at the Pro Shop this week after three months closed at the Ice House in Hackensack, NJ. Work is a priority. The Ice House is reopening this Monday for figure skaters with limited sessions. Hockey returns July 6 at Ice House.

What are your plans ? Start playing immediately or wait ?

We cancelled SummerJam at the Prudential Center because we just didn't think we would get enough people to want to travel to NJ at this time.  It took me a while to come to that decision but I think it was justified.  We'll be back next year - expect to see you there!
