  1. My dad is awake and was taken off vent tube last night about 11. He ate a little breakfast this morning, and looks really good. Doctors ended up doing a quadruple bypass, and everything went great, no complications with previous spinal injuries. Long recovery ahead, but very happy today.

  2. Glad they caught it. Those procedures are fairly routine these days. At least it sounds like his cath lab experience went better than mine. Catheter turned a 99% blocked artery into 100%, heart stopped, got the paddles and a brand new shiny stent on the spot.

He has 3 previous stents. This cath showed 1 artery 100%, 2 at 90ish%. He's on bypass right now as of the last update and they are working on the heart now.

My biggest worry is his ability to make it through and recover recover. About 7 years ago he had an accident crushing his c-5 and c-6 (broken neck) leaving him a quadriplegic (incomplete), with Limited strength and paralysis in all limbs.

Edit: good news, he's off bypass now.

  3. After going back and forth in my head for days, I finally decided to accept a new job offer. the hours arent the best, but the money is good, and there is room for advancement, which i dont have currently. While difficult for me to move on from where i am and what im doing now, im excited for the future and this new opportunity.

Best part: they really wanted me to come work there, and worked it out so that I will still be going to winterfest as planned!

  4. Just got done playing 18 holes at an awesome local golf course. They had a demo day scheduled, so we made our tee time to end right before that started. All the big names were there. Some amazing new clubs out there! But the best thing was the sale that the pro shop had. I walked out the door with a Callaway Diablo Octane tour driver (9.5* with projectX 6.0 shaft), Callaway razrHawk 3 wood, and an Odyssey white ice DART putter. All brand new still in the plastic for $200!. Im very excited to hit these, and blown away by the deals they had!

  5. Spent some time this Father's day weekend building a deck. While that doesnt sound super fun, to be able to do that for, and while hanging out with, my handicapped father was just awesome. A couple uncles from out of town came in and we all hung out and built a 12' x 24' deck with dual walkways/steps around the pool. First time ever actually building something like this. learned a lot, and it came out great. And got some quality time with my dad for fathers day.

  6. Co-workers who call in sick, and management that repeatedly screws me over to cover that position for the day, when just as many equally capable people are there to do it, but dont feel like it. Good thing i'm there to pick up all the slack so they can sit on their lazy asses all day. It's becoming more common...

  7. I never said anything about buying knockoffs, I'm talking about buying real products that are being sold as noname brand. You know, like buying generic vs name brand medecine. It's the same thing with a different name stamped on it.

I'm not sure I'd be into buying knockoff protective gear... somehow that just seems like a bad idea.

BTW - way to bring something said in another thread into this one...

The brand v. generic medicine argument really is a bad example for this. The FDA regulates that the generics must meet rigorous test standards that have limited variability compared to the brand name. Which can only be done AFTER the brand name patent expires (which can be good for up to 20 years in some cases). Followed by more vigorous testing if the change names/active ingredients/ or even a manufacturing facility change.

Pretty sure theres no FDA for hockey equipment, no standards, and no rigorous testing to prove these no-name brands are the exact same things.

For me, if a warehouse markets a stick as the, say, "Booer Qx600". What guarantee do i have that it is just like an X60? Because said warehouse overseas says so? Just my thoughts...
