  1. I'm pretty sure the pro shop (hockeydeals?) at the Chelsea Rink has FBV. I was there earlier in the summer and swear they had a FBV banner hanging up. I have never had skates sharpened there, so I can't comment on their quality.
  2. So what does Blackstone say regarding dust collection? Do they have any info in the x01/x02 manuals? Has anyone called them to ask what they recommend for these personal sharpeners?
  3. My understanding (but no means an expert): No, it's not a fixed depth. The depth will be determined by the width of the blade, just like with a standard ROH sharpen. The angle of the edges on the FBV will not change, but the width of the angled edges will be determined by the wdith of the blade. As long as the blade is in plane with the sharpening wheel, then if the blade is not dead center to the wheel, you'll end up with one edge higher than the other... just like a standard ROH sharpening. This will be checked with an edge gauge and corrected if need be.
  4. yeah, I was being facetious... I wouldn't sleep with her if I were you... a girl that has no problem breaking up her best friends relationship is definitely one you want to stay FAR away from. I'd in fact go a bit further and take a good look at your own girlfriend, because a girl who would become best friends with someone so manipulating is probably a little off her rocker as well.
  5. mnpucker (or others), I read a few pages back that you are now using the upgraded x-series (tri-lie like?) holder... what is the smallest size skates you've used with this holder? Have you encountered any problems with a smaller skate? I'm looking at getting an X01 in the next 6 months with the main use being sharpening my kids skates... currently youth 11.5 and junior 2, but I have a 1.5 year old that will be skating in a couple of years. Worried from some previous posts in this thread that the holder will have issues with youth skates.
  6. Next year break up with her before Christmas, and then get back together in early March. Is the best friend hot? Might as well sleep with her now if you're already paying for it.
  7. funny you should say that. i traded a potpourri of pain killers to a buddy for a bottle of '98 Dom about a week ago and here i am in massive pain. pretty sure one of the ligaments in my knee is on its way out. Admitting to dealing drugs is probably not a wise thing to do on a public forum.
  8. While your critique of the press isn't necessarily off base for a lot of celebs, I think it is in this case. Chris had numerous run-ins with the law, including: marijuana possession, dui, weapons charges, assault... and all of those were SEPARATE incidents. I think in this case his reputation is 95% his own doing. Regardless though, he appeared to be making changes in his personal life and it's sad that he has passed. Unfortunately it looks like in his last act, he reverted to his old self, in that he didn't take a moment to think things through.
  9. The technical difference is the FBV uses straight slopes down to the flat on the inside edges whereas the BFD uses a slope with a radius down to the flat. |\_/| versus |(_)| Blackstone came out with the FBV well before Blademasters BFD. Blackstone (per JR) tried different cuts (including the radiused slope like the BFD), but found that the V profile worked the best. Blademasters has a document on their page discounting the blackstone FBV claims... it's an interesting read, but read it for what it is, a marketing tool. In fact, blademaster went to great lengths (prior to the release of BFD) of trying to make people believe that flat bottom profiles were merely a gimmick. Simple fact is FBV is much more prevalent and I have yet to see a negative review of it. Can't argue with success.
  10. Yes, thou is a technical term interchangeable with mil. As an engineer who works with thin sheets of Al, the term thou is used as often or more than mils. As the metric system has increased in use in the US, people often confuse mil with mm.
  11. Not sure if this is the reasoning, but for an object in circular motion, the velocity of the object is equal to the angular rate of rotation multiplied by the radius of the circle. So in this case if you want to maintain the same velocity of the outer edge of the grinding wheel when stepping down from an 8" to 4" wheel, you'd have to double the rpm's (rate of angular motion).
