steel weight

Recommended Posts

wondering if anyone would be willing to guess how much just the steel itself weighs on a pair of skates (size is 280). i was just curious because i compared the full weight of my old skates (with almost no blade left) with my new ones (with a new blade), and my new skates seem to weigh about the same. i was pretty sure that the new skates would be much lighter.

You may be spending weigh too much time on analysis on that one.....

(by the way, bad pun intended)

i was just curious. i figured that skates that are 8 years old would be significantly heavier than those were brand new.

What skates are you comparing and what kind of holder and steel do you have on each?

One of the reason newer skates tend to seem lighter is because they don't absorb water, so keeps them light your whole skate, while some skates tend to soak up a ton of water.

I just put a pair of Tuuk steel 280 on the shipping scale and they weigh together 10 oz. 280 LS steel, not preferated, 10.5 oz. A pair of 280 Tuuk-type Hotblades is 7 oz. 280 LS2, preferated 9.5 oz.

Anyone want anything else weighed today, I'm so bored!

If your serious I'd love to see the actual weight of the 7K OPS, 6K shaft and XV shaft.

7k OPS is 15oz, 6k shaft is 13.5 oz, XV shaft is 11.5 oz.

Keep in mind my scale is not "gram" accurate, just a simple shipping scale.

Thanks for weighing the items. 10 oz for a pair of steel is actually pretty significant. They don't look very big, but I guess they can weight quite a bit in the end.

1 ounces = 28.3495231 grams

Thus, the 7k Ops = 425.25 grams

6K shart = 382.72 grams

Xv Shaft = 326 grams

(approximately, of course)

I skates in my new skates for the first time tonight.

Oh man, that absorbing vs non-absorbing material makes a HUGE difference. I can't believe how much lighter my skates feel when they don't absorb water.
