Bauer 8090 skates question...

Recommended Posts

I have a similar problem, 6.5 left, 7 right ridiculously narrow heels. My bauer rep measured every part of my foot, having bauer build the boot around those measurements. Perfect fitting Vapor XXX's+8090 tongues+solid steel+pro stiffness= a little slice of heaven. The satisfaction of having a skate that fits pretty much cancels out any of the extra cost.

How much did it cost you ? And do you know if they can do 1/4 sizes ? Did you just call up Bauer/Nike or did you do it through your LHS. And yeah having skates that fit is a great, because if skates don't fit its always on your mind and then it messes with your game.

yes they can do 1/4 sizes and its only available on there top model skates and it is an extra 200 dollars custom charge

Holy cow, there is no way I can afford to pay 400+ for a top of the line Bauer skate and anoter 200.00 USD on top of it.

theres a rule man it may be harsh but if you have to ask how much something costs then you cant afford it

Your right, when a customer asks me how much the skate guards are seeing as theres no price tag on them, I have a really hard time breaking the news  Your theory holds true for Bentley dealerships, not most retail stores.

well skate guards is something that is different. but when listing a large group of skates and asking how much it is for custom and it being 200 cad cause im from toronto. i was just saying something that i live by. im not saying your wrong in asking how much it is for custom but if you really need custom then why would it matter if most companis are 200cad ontop of the original price

Because skates as it skates are ridiculously expensive, and the prices don't seem to be easing up. You don't have to pay 33% more on top of the retail tag if you want leather seats in your car do you ?

I got Vapor XXX + custom white tongue + AA heels + thickened ankle packs + custom stiff + non-perf steels + reinforced tendon guard...

Luckily, it came out to a fraction of what all of you payed :D

you cant compare buying a car to buying custom skates. besides its not like your just getting the same size skate with different things. you were asking about 1/4 sizes which they do and that takes time to build and construct. and besides with the extra 200 bucks you can pretty much do nythin u want. u want the 8090 outsole on a vapor xx with a 5000 tongue and a 7000 liner with tuuk custom plus holders and runner with lifts in the front and back and have them just use copper rivets instead of combination of copper and regular rivets with pro stiffness. or say with the 8090 if u wanted the traditional lace pattern instead of the t-lace pattern with the hydrophobic liner and bauer comp outsole with tuuk custom plus and one degree above retail stiffness. they can do that. so your paying for customizing it to your specs. if you just wanted the same thing you would just buy a retail skate. also you could stretch out a skate 1/4 of a size if you wanted too. meaning one skate would be a 7.5 and the other would be 7 3/4

The comparison to leather seats in cars is all wrong. You're getting a completely custom skate. A more apt comparison would be that you want to order a car that has slightly different exterior and interior dimensions from stock. That would cost way more than your 33% (actually 600 over 400 is a 50%) premium, and would also obviously cost more than $200.

That's a pretty arrogant and incorrect attitude to have. I bet you can tell who can afford it just by looking at them too.

Yea its a dumb comparison I was making, I was just trying to get a point accross. If I was a company and I would want people to wear my product, I would not charge extra 200 dollars to have it fit properly and I believe we can all agree on that. Yes the skates get custom made but you also have to wait like 2 weeks to get it done, and its not like it takes them 2 weeks of labor to make the skate, epesially the vapor xx skate which is pretty much pre made and slapped together (watched the Forsberg video on the Bauer site haha), but yeah I am in university & I love playing hockey and both of them together are heavy on the pockets and paying 800.00 CAD plus taxes for a skate right now is not really an option right now, epecially if they will only last one season.

Chad so do you think if the 6.5 D in Vapor XX's is a bit tight, the 6.5 D in the 8090's would be an alrite fit ? And are you pleased with the skates, cuz everyone in the review section seems to be very pleased with them.

Obviously I suggest trying them on first. If the D is a little tight on the sides, then the 8090 may be too wide.

then my suggestion to you is to get a skate that fits your foot properly fitting the slightly smaller foot and having the shop stretch out the other skate to fit the foot that is a 1/4 size bigger. I also just found out why they charge the extra 150-200 dollars it is because they have to pretty much stop production to make a skate that is not to the generic spec. there making a skate to a custom spec so they have to change the molds, the machinery settings. as for the forsberg video come on its peter forsberg hes not your avg. joe schmo. its more of a hassle to make a custom skate then just pump out how many generc vapor XXX skates in a size 9D. since when bauer makes skates they do a size run meaning they make size 9D for a day then they move onto the next size and so on. this is why it is extra money. companies only make skates to fit generic feet meaning both feet being the same size and the person not having any bone spurs.

Minus the AA heels, those are all the specs that I would get if I hit up some XXX's. Those must be pretty wicked.

I tried them on today, size 6 fits well, but the skates don't seem very comfortable. I think I will do like you told me get a pair and strech it out, I hope it won't damage the skate. By the way Chad you seem to know a thing or two about skates can you tell me if the Vapor XXX fit is much different then the XX ? I heard they are stiffer but are they a lot stiffer ?

I have not skated in XXX or worn them, I can't compare them for you. Some of our other members have and I'm sure they will be able to help you.

ill help out here, i find the XXX fits somewhat close to the XX only thing is it may be abit snugger in the heel due to the chlorino liner in the skate. the toe area i find is slightly wider now this may be due to the liner also. but generally it should fit relatively close.

My retail XX's and XXX's are cut identically. If it weren't for the different liners I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
