Recommended Posts

Hi has anyone used one of the Gear hornet sticks or shafts, i like the look of them but not sure how they perform. Also if anyone has used them can you tell me what the grip is like on either the orange or yellow one .

Never used the Grip versions..sorry..but the standard ones held up well...it has a thin blade though..and for i couldn't use it on ice.it bent too much...for roller..not bad with the lighter puck, etc..i didn't prefer it over a closeout TFG.but i'd take it over some lower end OPS's from various larger name mfgs...plus it has a 30 day money back guarantee

I have a yellow one. The shaft is just painted so it's smooth. I use it for ice and it's held up fine so far but I don't take many slappers so I'm probably not a good judge of it's durability.

i bought two when Hockey Giant had their buy one get one free sale. When combined with the free shipping and the 20% off coupon I had it was tough to pass up @ $50 for two. B)

Wow, this is ancient territory for intarweb land but I'll resurrect it.

I have the gear hornet tapered shaft... it's actually my second favourite shaft and favourite for playing forward (ultralite is where it's at for defence)

Just wondering if anyone is now (2009) using gears umm... gear and what they think of it, also I would like to find out more about where these guys are getting their shafts from because it seems to be holding up extremely well and was only 25.00!!!!

My dad bought me some Hornets; quite possibly the worst stick I have ever used, not bad for street hockey though... that's all I use it for. The grip version was the same stick with a decent grip.

I believe that GEAR is the Hockey Giant store brand product. So they are the only place that you're going to find it...In the States anyway.

Gear is hockeygiant's home brand. You will see they have gear jerseys, pants, tape, bags (which suck) and sticks that are only found on Hockeygiant.

I personally had about 3 or 4 Yellow Gear hornet sticks and a C4 Gear stick before that. They are ok if you're transitioning from a wood stick to a composite stick and don't want to break the bank. As stated by the poster above...those sticks do suck...if you compare them to a Nike Bauer XVI or an Easton SC6 (neither great sticks in my opinion)

One day I was doing some "hockey stick surgery" on a Easton and a Gear Hornet, when I cut the Easton open its wall thickness was consistant all the way through, when I cut the Gear Hornet open the wall thickness of the shaft was all over the place, thin in some areas and thick in others. That being said, I now use that Gear Hornet shaft as a security post on my back patio sliding door. Ha!

I don't have the ops, which looks pretty cheap, but the shaft I'm using seems to be pretty sturdy, but then again I'm cheap and poor and haven't tried any high end sticks so I suppose my idea of usable is different from others.

scored a bunch of goals with in drop in today...
