A little help for those who have Carbster Helmets?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if any posters out there who have a Carbster helmet might be able to help me. I recently bought a Carbster XL from HockeyGiant. It says that it is an XL (both on the box, and on some sticker on the helmet), however, I don't know who put those labels on the helmet (mission, or HG).

REGARDLESS, I had tried some friends Carbsters (both the LG, and the XL) and this fits more like an LG than an XL. I only have a 23in circum. mellon, so the XL should be a bit roomy, but this thing is dang tight!

Which makes me wonder if the helmet I was sent was mislabelled. I measured mine and length wise (front to back, outside of outer shell to outside of outershell) and it was 9 7/8in and width was 8 3/16's.

I tried measuring my buddy's large and it seemed slightly larger (10x8 1/4), but since he had a cage and the earflaps on, it was a bit cumbersome to measure. The guy who had the XL is out of town, and I want to return the thing ASAP if it's wrong.

SO.... if there are any fellow Carbster owners, could you do me a favor, take out a measuring tape, and list what size your helmet is and what it is length and width wise? I figure only those with a med (or m/l? I think Mission might have a med/lg), Lg, or XL need bother (as I doubt it's a small).

Thanks in advance.

O.O.

I'm not near mine to measure, but there's something to look for. There's a removable liner inside there that I didn't know about. Take it out and it will make your lid fit much better. I bought an XL to go on my 7 5/8 melon and thought it seemed awfully tight when I first put it on. I mentioned it here and Chadd, I believe, told me to look for the liner.

Gameface, I did think about the removeable liner. However, by removing it, it is no longer certified (although, I don't care about that too much in my league), the liner also acts somewhat as a grip to your head, but the main thing I wouldn't like is the plastic snaps digging into my scalp (where the missing liner clips in).

JR, that's interesting to note that it's smaller. Perhaps my buddy got a different model year?

CAB, if I were you, I'd go bigger, not smaller. You can always wear a doo-rag if it's a little loose. HOWEVER, I should point out that my 23" head is roughly a 7 1/2. I tried both a LG, and XL before buying the one I got. The LG was snug, almost to the point of being tight (but not horrendously uncomfortable - so, likely personal preference). I opted for the XL (which should have had some extra room for a more comfy, relaxed, loose fit) and that came back fitting pretty dang tight. No way a 7 3/4 mellon would squeeze into that without force. There are some size ranges on the box I have at home. I'll try to remember to post them when I get home tonight so you have a better reference.

Thanks alot, I may end up getting one, but not being able to adjust it kinda worries me. I normally buy 7 3/8 hats...but sometimes they feel a little tight. So I guess whatever you guys would think fits 7 1/2 is probably what I should get. I don't need a headache the whole game.

If I didn't get my hair cut every few weeks I couldn't wear my Carbster. That's too much extra work for a helmet. Even one I liked as much as the that one.

I got a large and that's the size of a motorcycle helmet I would wear so it makes some sense. I have no clue about my hat size since I haven't bought a fitted hat since high school and none of those fit anymore. My large carbster is a nice fit. It was a little tight with a do-rag not uncomfortably so, but I've switched to a UA head wrap anyways. I shave my head so my hair is aways short so I don't know how that affects the fit and since I don't plan on growing it out anytime soon, we'll never know. If it means anything when I talked to the people at hockeygiant they said I should wear a medium based on their chart but the large fits my head pretty good so I can't imagine the medium fitting.
