NHL Awards Nominations

Recommended Posts

The nominations have been announced to day and I am pretty surprised by some of the selections, is Tortorella such a good coach when he constantly yells and puts his players down saying he doesn't know if he could win with their goally, no Souray in the Norris nominations and Pronger instead. Yes Brodeur is an impact player on his team but they haven't improved their team compared to the Panthers and I understand why Luongo is nominated but not Brodeur. Anyway those were my 2 cents.

Yeah I just found that on TSN... Here's the link for anyone who hasn't found it. I think there's a few surprises there. I'd like to see Iginla win the Hart though I think he deserves it.

Well compared to Pronger I think Souray had more of an impact on the team in the first half of play, yeah he dropped a bit since his injury but I think compared to the Habs, the Blues have a better defence and their offence didn't produce all season and it showed off in the first series of the playoffs. At some time it was the other way in Montreal, the offence wasn't producing and their defence was scoring for them and rushing in on the offence and helping them out with goals and great plays.

EDIT: On the Tortorella question, my idea of a coach is someone who motivates his players buy complimenting them and trying to work with them, he tries to go thru the media and criticizing them. Compared to Mike Babcock(no I am not suggesting that he should be nominated cause the Ducks sucked this season) but last year during the playoffs, the thing that he did to get the guy's motivated was just a simple picture of the Stanley Cup.

Schneider and McCabe got screwed over this year. Both had Norris-winning seasons, but there happened to be 3 or 4 other guys who did as well. I think that Chara should definitely win, and if not him, Niedermayer.

Heres I think how the trophies shuld be:

Hart:St. Louis

Vezina:Kipprusoff

Calder:Raycroft

Jack Adams:Darryl Sutter

Selke:Draper

Norris:Niedermayer.

P.S scince there are three players tied to the rocket richard trophy who gets it most points?

Without doubt, some surprises. But all in all, all deserving of their respective awards. Thought Esche may have been a possible candidate fir the Vezina, he's really improved over last season. Well, there are awards for the playoffs....

Elias:First, search. Secondly, to save you time, yes, all three will receive the award as stated in one of the threads regarding the topic.

We was robbed, No McCabe, No Belfour.... I'm actually a Schneider fan too :(

I'm dissappointed to see Brodeur in the running for Hart. He led the devils to poor result, season and playoffs wise (I know playoffs doesn't matter). If Ignla basically didn't win before because they didn't make the playoffs, then he should win because he brought a team which hadn't made the playoffs before to a well positioned spot.

No way. Not even close to being nominated. He didn't even play in half the games, plus judging strictly by numbers, Belfour, Raycroft, and Turco are better.

From what I have seen in the playoffs, McCabe does deserve a shot at the Norris. You guys are right.

Unfortunatly the playoffs don't count on those awards, they most of the time colect the votes in the first games, I personally think that they should announce the nominations after the playoffs cause like some say, that is the real season.

Does Brodeur the only goalie nominated for the Hart not make him basically the automatic Vezina winner?

I think Brodeur runs on name recognition a LOT, didn't have that great of a season for him, but it's kinda like cal ripken in baseball all star games. "oh he's still playing, well might as well nominate him"

No, hard to imagine him winning the Hart and no the Vezina though. Kipper deserved to be nominated for the Hart more than Marty.

I sorta like the idea, however, players that aren`t on playoff-bound temas lose out becasue playoffs allow for the true colours of players to shine, and the players not on playoff-bound teams are unable to show, it is biased to playoff teams.

I don't think Kipprusoff will get the Vezina. He only played 38 games. I heard last year that Turco did not win in becuase of lack of games played.

That's why I think he was a better pick for the Hart than Vezina. Luongo deserves the Vezina more than anyone else.

hart: st. louis....the catalyst for the lightning's winning ways. does everything for that team.

norris: chara...played big on both ends of the ice. if any one has a problem with him winning, i'm sure he could just step on them.

vezina: luongo .....its incredible how many shots this guy gets a night and he still keeps the panthers in every game. if he loses, it'll be because of wins number only.

calder: raycroft...ryder was good, but raycroft solidified himself as an nhl starting goalie.

selke: mccauley...yes, draper had a career year, but everyone noticed only because he scored 20+ goals. i think offensive has nothing to do with this award. besides, i just think it'd be cool to see mccauley win.

lady: st. louis

adams: wilson...at the end of last year, i thought he'd be gone for sure. totally wrong. even with an incredibly young roster, he completely turned the sharks around.

Draper has had a career offensive year, but hes still playing great defense, the same great defense hes been playing for years. His offensive numbers have drawn attention to his defensive game.

that's what i said. this award is messed up in that the best defensive players don't get credit unless they start scoring goals. i'd also add that draper also gets a ton of help from maltby as well. its more of a unit. don't get me wrong, he's a fantastic defensive player, but i would rather see mccauley win.
