Disney out of hockey in a big way

Recommended Posts

Hmmm....looks like Mickey Mouse really doesn't like hockey. Doesn't Disney, who's in the process of selling the Mighty Ducks, also own ABC and ESPN??

Now if they could only get rid of Goofy and Dumbo (who are in charge of the league and players association) we may get the game back on!

Isn't the deal already final and the Ducks where sold to billionaire Henry Samueli and his wife Susan? I don't think Disney especially wanted to get out of hockey rather then just selling one of their smaller companies. The Ducks were sold for 50 - 60M, isn't that cheap considering the Edmonton Oilers had a 85M price tag back in '98?

The deal isn't 100% final. I think they're still in the paperwork phase. I'm hoping the rumors are true about Burke coming in as GM. TSN also said a name change might come along, which I wouldn't mind. I don't mind the team name "Ducks" But the "mighty" part needs to be tossed. I also wouldn't mind them using the old Oakland "Seals" team name.

If I were them I would change the team name but keep Anaheim in it.

There was a rumor that Weisbrod had already agreed to take the job but TSN has been really pushing for their guy Burke to get the job.

The sale will not be complete and approved until the CBA is signed, te draft takes place and some free agents are singed. There will not be time for the required board of governors meeting. The new owners will likely take over day to day operations long before the sale is approved.

I'd love to see Weis get the job. I know that he was approached and that he has accepted something. He had denied in the media that Anaheim was talking to him, but they had, plus the NHL had contacted him for a front office job. The running joke me and my friend have is that we'll follow him to Anaheim - I'll be the equipment mgr...
