Vapor#42 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Well, Ive just found myself extremely bored at Sydney Airport with a 6 hour delay and no one to talk to.. ive been here for 3 hours already and i am sooooooo BORED! i have to say that airport delays really suck and if it wasnt for MSH, i would be going out of my mind.. so far ive stood in the music store and watched Napolian Dynamite from start to finish, had 2 beers at the flight bar, listned to my i-pod for an hour and am now out of ideas with what to do next... I am quite angry right now!Any one else having a bad start to there break ?
Dangles 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Where was your flight to? I've found that most transatlantic and long-haul flights can get quite delayed for whatever reason. I was sitting in the Vancouver International Airport at spring break and there was a flight going to Tokyo that was 4-5 hours delayed. I just couldnt imagine sitting in that waiting area with a bunch of impatient Japanese folks.
kosydar 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 My buddy ended up having to stay the night at LAX and he snuck into one of the VIP Lounges and fell asleep on a nice couch inside of Air China or something. Of course he was woken up a few hours later by a pissed off Asian woman, but it worked for a while.
sherwood21 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Christmas Eve, was coming home from hockey in Toronto, had to chill there for 8 1/2 hours, from 3 PM-12ish. Not fun at all, luckily I had wireless and a couple of games on my laptop.I remember too when I was coming home to see the Heritage Classic, my delay was like 5 or 6 hours, brutal. Probably not much compared to some other ones but as a 12 year old flying by yourself it feels like a while, lol

hocckey77 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 How did you like surfers ??? I was only there for a day. RI was on some "smart peoples trip" when i was like 11 so in the summer of 2001. We were at random places on the east coast. It was fun, but lame since you couldn't go anywhere freely so it wasn't like a vaction or anything. We had an itenerary( cant spell that) that we followed so it wasn't that fun. ONe day I'll go back.

kosydar 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 Go up to the customer service desk and ask to be rewarded for your time. Ask for vouchers for food and/or future airline tickets. Believe it or not, airlines are very quick to hand out vouchers to customers, at least in America. All you have to do is tell them that you'll A. never fly their airline again and B. tell all your friends to never fly with them again. I've flown 2-3 times per year for the past 5 years, and I think my family has paid for 2 of those tickets total. This probably won't work in your case, but the best thing to do is ask if the flight is oversold, and if it is, tell them that you'll be willing to get bumped for vouchers for future airfare. I've done this easily 10 times. Each time they put you up in a pretty nice hotel by the airport and they give you a lot of vouchers for food inside the airport. Even with airport food being as expensive as it is, I'm always able to pick up a whole extra meal to eat on the flight. If you were on the last flight of the night they'll usually get you out first thing in the morning. However one time I was "stuck" in Phoenix for 3 nights in a nice hotel and a Lincoln Towncar on America West's bill. They even hooked us up with discounted Coyotes tickets. My two personal favorite airline bumping stories- this past winter when I was at a tournament in Colorado, I told the lady I'd be more than willing to get bumped. She said "don't you have school tomorrow?" and I replied "yeah, but I have a huge project due I haven't started," which was the truth. There were 4 people ahead of me to get bumped, but she put my name at the top of the list because she felt bad. The second one was this Spring Break when me and my mom offered to get bumped. The flight wasn't full so they couldn't bump us, but the guy was real cool and gave us 2 free international vouchers just for offering. Airline people are usually real cool. They deal with a lot of assholes, and if you show them some kindness and respect they'll usually hook you up.

roadrunner 12 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 It's not an airline problem, There's fog and high winds. Would you risk 200 peoples safety? Vapor #42 can you get a refund or credit? If you can, take it and drive.

It was Osaka, the manmade island airport, when I was going to the Philippines. I was only 8 so I didn't get too bored. Back then all the airport tvs were HD. It was a layover though, not delay. NashvillePreds 1 Report post Posted June 29, 2005 Right up my alley....I've been stuck for about a day....USAir had their flight attendents walk out during christmas and cancelled all kinds of flights. We were going out to Denver for some skiing, and since we fly on space available we decided to fly to Vail since they had seats on the flight. Long story short, the flight got cancelled and since there is only one flight a week to Vail they rolled all the people over from our flight to the Denver flights (which were already overbooked) so we waited a day before deciding to fly to Kansas City and drive from there. 10 hours later we got there. It wasn't that bad going, but coming back we left around 3 in the afternoon and drove all night (January 1st btw) to get to KC at 4-5 AM for the first flight out. There was one time my parents forgot my birth certificate on a trip to St. Maarten. So the Airline people (my mom was working for American at the time) wouldn't let us leave from Puerto Rico to there without the certificate. Ended up paying a lawyer $50 to write something that allowed for us to continue on our trip, but we did end up spending the night in some cheap ass hotel in San Juan after getting offered all kinds of pot. Another time had us leaving Orlando, with all the flight to Charlotte (where we live) full we decided to fly to Raleigh and connect from there. So we leave around 8 AM, get to Raleigh. Miss the flight to Charlotte because the plane broke. All the people go ahead of us on the list. Weather hits the Raleigh airport ends up delaying the next flight out. We eventually get a flight out at like 9 PM. Then we later find out that the Orlando - Charlotte flight left with open seats on it that all of us could've got on. About 2 years ago we went to Hershey, PA for the day to visit the Hershey factory. Have some extra time and hit up Gettysburg before a 5 PM flight. Get to the airport and all the flight coming and going are cancelled. So we're stuck in Hershey. So once again we are flying space available so all the people that paid go ahead of us on the list. So we end up paying to ferry a car from Hershey to Philly for a flight that is already delayed due to weather but has seats on it. So pops ends up driving about 100 mph on the Penn Turnpike. Gets us to the airport, run through the terminal, and find that the flight has been delayed even longer. So around midnight the weather finally passes and we finally get a plane that can take us. The ride up to the cruising altitude is as rough as I've ever experienced, and the majority of the people are sleeping....except a group infront of us that seemed to have a few too many martini's waiting for their plane ride. Well one chick decides to stand up and strike up a conversation with the people in front of us in the middle of the turbulence. Flight Attendant almost tackles her to get her to sit down. Finally end up getting home around 330 AM. The Charlotte terminal had all kinds of people that were staying the night there, pretty crazy. So is the life of a non-revenue traveler. ktang 34 Report post Posted June 29, 2005 A few years ago I was delayed at Boston Logan for 4 hours, trying to get to Newark NJ. The plane was already loaded up and on the tarmac when the US East Coast's air traffic control system network shut down. David Bowie and his wife (Imam?) were in the first row in Business Class. After an hour the plane taxied back to the jetway so that persons who chose to disembark could do so. David Bowie and his wife got off the plane. Then we taxied back out, and everybody was served with free booze but no food. Then the flight attendants asked for people to go up and sing David Bowie songs, with the winner getting a bottle of champagne. The winning song was "Little China Girl". Everybody was pretty happy after a while.Because of the 4-hour delay I missed my British Airways flight to Heathrow, but I was transferred onto a Virgin Airlines flight instead. That was pretty nice; massages and good food in Business Class.
