Re-Shafting My Driver

Recommended Posts

The other day I was on the course, and getting ready to hit a drive, did the little "waggle" thing and my shaft just snapped. I dont know why. I'm most disappointed because it was a Fujikura Speeder 757 (the real one) not the "made for *insert golf company name here*". So I need your help, with finding a new shaft, or getting some reviews on the two shafts listed below. I would like to put on one of the ones listed below, but am not sure of the quality, and what flex I need in them (because non drivers at my local golf store have the shaft on them, so I can test feel). My Speeder was stiff but felt slightly whippy. The shafts are:

- Grafalloy Blue

or

- Aldila NV 65

Details: 117 MPH Swing Speed, 6 handicap, I do not like to work the ball a lot. I'm more the grip it and rip it type, so the shaft must be able to handle my speed, while staying on the plane (I usually hit about a 5 yard draw, start it down the first cut of the right hand side, and it comes back to the middle-right side)

sorry bout the long post, and thanks in advance for any responses.

P.S. Do not recommend another Speeder please. I do not want to go back to Fuji.

The blue is as stout as they come, I'd go with that in an S flex. Its more of a hitters shaft wheras the NV is more better off for a swinger.

Get the Aldila shaft. They're a very good and reliable company for golf shafts.

Every custom shaft company is reliable, its a question of what is ideal for ones swing. What works for his 117 mph SS is not going to work for my smooth 100 mph swing speed. I'm using a GD ys-6, which requires a smoother tempo and gets poor results for those with a more violent swing.

I'd have to agree with the Blue.

Cavs you are the same height/weight as me roughly, how do you like the gd shaft? and what flex do you use?

The reason I ask is I find the R tip-soft shaft in my R5 to be way too whippy, and hit hard slices with it. Whereas the R True Temper lite steel of my 5 wood is dead straight.

I love it, use a Stiff for my buttery-smooth 100 mph SS. Stock taylor made shafts always play softer than listed, that could be your problem. I'm 5'9 165.

I'm 5'9 165.

I'm about 3 inches shorter and 40 lbs. less than you and use a whip flex for my driver and I use a regular flex on my hybrid.
