what d oyou guys think of the new rule changes? i'm sorry i can only tjink of the shoot out right now. somebody please post other rule changes.

i like the shootout rule. i think it will bring an end to useless ties.

Touch up is going to happen and most likely permitting two line passes will as well. Smaller goalie gear and yet another crackdown on interference as well.

Honestly, I would prefer to see fewer games reach OT let alone a shootout. As long as there is some emphasis on teams trying to score more goals, I'll be happy.

I don´t see dropping the two line rule change the game to the better i.e. make it more offensive on small rinks. A little faster maybe....just maybe but I fear that most defenses will play even more of a stay at home game to avoid breaks because meanwhile (and I still think it´s because of all the extensions) the whole NHL seems a defense first league.

Then create a list or something...

I just wanna know what has been changed.

Nobody knows yet. The only lists are pure speculation, waiting a couple days isn't that hard.

Most people seem very opinionated on most possible rule changes but one rule I haven't heard people talk to much about is the idea of an altered icing. I've heard icing will be different possibly no touch icing or possibly the ref's disgresion or something like that. What are peoples opinions?

I just wanna know what has been changed.

If I recall a Bob Mackenzie piece last week he said the for sures are:

Tag up Offside

Shoot Outs after overtime...(** see below)

Goalie Equipment changes

Maybe's are:

No Touch Ice (this is apparantly close, but still under discussion)

2 line passes...although the exact way they'll do it is unsure. Removing the Red line altogether, Bowman Blue Line, etc...

** Variations of Overtime (5 min of 4-4 followed by 5 min of 3-3 is still being discussed)

Changes in line size/width (although the colors are expected to stay the same)

The "Futures Considerations" are:

Bigger/different shaped nets...next to no change of that this year.

...

...

I know I am missing something, but that was Bobby Mac's breakdown (as I remember it)

i really dont think its a good idea to have touch-icing at the referee's disgression, theres no way that would work, and considering many players sprint to save an iced puck is the referee required to sprint at that same pace to make a decision? i would go for no-touch icing, since they are thinking of reducing space behind the net. it could get really ugly elsewise

300th :D

Even if they move the nets, they'll be going back to where they were. Touching icing works well disputed call-wise 99.9% of the time. It's more of an injury problem. I hope they wave all attempted passes for the no-touch.

20 teams in the playoff? it is long enough as it is. they should go back to the old style top 8 teams based on points get in other don't.

they take away the red line and jagr will never be inside his own blue line.

the icing rule i like. too many players are getting hit from behind.

Hit from behind on icings? I can't remember one of those. They'll still race on alot of "dying pucks", I don't expect a huge decrease in injurys.

I can definitely remember Michel Goulet getting his career ended from an icing race. Marco Sturm also broke his leg real bad I think froma race to the goal line in 04.

Did anyone notice this in the USA today article?

Teams icing the puck cannot change players on the ensuing faceoff.

That right there is probably the number one good reason a team will ice the puck. Trapped in your zone with exhusted players, icing is a lifesaver. While this would eliminate alot of intentional icing, I don't think I like it.

This is probably the best way to change the icing rule (also from the same article):

Alter the icing rule to make it a race to the goal line instead of to the puck. If the offensive player gets his stick to the goal line first, the play goes on. If the defender wins, it's icing. This keeps the race in the game but reduces the chances of injury.

No it doesn't. Players racing will still be tugging on eachotherand thats where the injuries happen.

I like the no changing rule. should make people think a little more. Thinking causes give-aways, give-aways cause chances.

I like that a lot. Most of us have probably had times when we've beaten their defenseman in a race, but not the puck across the blue line. Changing the rule to 'first stick' would reward good hustle......or cherry-picking. ;)

I understand how it could potentially have equal wrestling, but there could also be times when guys are on opposite sides of the rink.

My point is, the times where players get hurt for a race to the puck, would be the exact same as a race to the redline. If they are on opposite sides, whether it be to a puck or a redline, there will be no contact. If theres contact to a puck, there will be contact to the redline.

most icing race related injuries I have seen/experienced come from two guys going full speed crashing into the boards together. Race to the red line would eliminate that.

Keep in mind they're moving the goal line 2 feet closer to the end boards according to most reports. A couple 200 pound guys are not going to just suddenly stop at the goal line. Plus, if one of them is stretching to get his stick to the goal line first he's going to be in a vulnerable position.
