Tackla Pants Questions

Recommended Posts

Cosmetics aside, what are the differences between the Tackla 951 and the 900? I know that the 951 replaced the 900 hundred in the lineup, so is one of them better than the other? Also, has anyone tried the 5000 Air? If so, how does it compare to the 9000?

Thanks guys

Chris

Chris I own the 951, i tried the 5000 Air on just for shits and giggles (way out of my price range) and in IMO they were a touch lighter to me then the 951's, i hope that helps any.

Coming from Mission M-2s they are amazingly mobile and they have great protection, alot of thigh padding and if im not mistaken a plastic inserts at the sides that wrap around to the hips not really leaving a gap.

Okay sorry to bring this from way way way way back.

I'm split between 951's and 5000 Air's. It took me a while to choose, chose the 951s mainly based on the employee's recommendation.

From trying the two pants on, I found they fit/feel pretty similar around the waist and hips. But I found the 951s a tad more mobile when I was moving my legs around, not that the 5000 air's were restricting. I'm not sure if there's even a discernible weight difference between the two pants, but the 951s simply felt a little lighter on me. The 5000 airs did feel a little more protective overall. Now the biggest thing that's making me think I should go back and exchange for the 5000 air's is the liner in the 951. The 5000 liner was more or less what I expected, the black plushy material I have in my old easton fusions. The employee told me the 951 liner would be much better since it's water resistant, but it seems like the liner will take some time to break in to feel comfortable. And I'm not sure if I'll notice the high spine protector on the 951 when I'm playing even though I found it a little weird wearing it at the store.

The 5000 air's were on clearance for $10 cheaper, so they were practically the same price.

I know protective equipment questions usually end up with the consensus that you need to decide based on whether you need the extra protection provided as you go up the product range. I'm looking for opinions based on people who have experience with these pants.

5000s are an awesome pant and you can't go wrong with either one. It does take a couple of skates for the pants to break in but when they do you won't regret it.

What is the difference between 9000 z air and 5000 Pro?

5000 has more padding and is slightly stiffer out of the box. They are also a two piece pant, while the 9000 is one piece.

I want a pant that sits lower than the 9000. Due to my body size and shape, when i wear my 9000's over my love handles they are almost to my arm pits! The pants are way to tall for me in the body! Does Tackla offer any pants that sit lower? Would the Hustlers sit lower? Unfortunately I need big boy sizes XXL tall so this limits me big time!

There are a few different "5000" series Tackla pants. There are the pro ones which are 2pc as Chadd mentioned and then there are also some that are a 1pc pant such as the HP5000 and 5000 Air. The pro pants are usually called the 5000X in the retail version. The retail ones are nice but IMO the lowers are not quite as good as the true NHL version has. The uppers are a bit different but even the retail one is still top notch. The NHL ones are not sold at retail but are out there if you hunt around. IMO once broken in you can't beat the Tackla 2pc pants.

not really sure how they compare protection wise to the 9000's but the 8800's are cut an inch or two lower on the hips.
