Oggie Ergo Grip

Recommended Posts

i got a free ergo oggie grip from work today cause they were just sitting around at the back.. It feels really comfortable, the shape is cool and all but are you supposed to tape it up like a normal end plug? I'm not so sure cause I'm new to this whole thing.. I just thought I'd ask and an answer would be appreciated. Thanks.

You don't need to tape it to be able to pick it up from the ice. (Actually, it won't get knocked out of your hand often.)

However, if you have newer gloves with the sticky grip in the palms, you might want to add tape to where you'll hold the grip, since the two sources of rubber make movement difficult. My gloves have sticky grip palms, and I recall one time that the puck was flying right at chest level but I wasn't able to take my hand off the grip quickly enough to catch it. That's a rarity however.

You've probably seen my say it before but the Ergo Grip is awesome. I like it better than the Classic, although the Classic is an easier transition since it's straight. On the other hand, Joe who invented Oggie Grip swears by the Classic. All personal preference.....

We're always looking for feedback on our grips from the players, whether it is GOOD or BAD feedback. But if it's good feedback, try and tell us why it's good, and if it's bad, we certainly want to hear why it's bad. If there is anyone out there using our Oggie Grips or Sticky Grip Foam we would like to hear from you.

We're out to make the best hockey stick grips on the market today and we can't do that without your feedback.

So let us know.

Thanks,

Joe Casasanta

Question about these grips. Do they subsitute the butt end? What i mean is do they act as a butt end? or do they slide right over the shaft? Because wouldnt you have to cut down your stick just to add one of these if it would make the stick to big?

Yes, it replaces the butt end.

Ahh, i see. So then you would have to cut your stick down to use it at the right height if it would be to big.

Mike, on the surface it's a bit scary to cut your stick shorter because you might not like it. Heck, I was concerned about it and I had boxes of sticks as replacements.

But, after putting on the Oggie Grip, I will never play without one. I've given my stick to teammates during warm-ups and every one has loved it. Shots are noticeably harder (they've been radar tested at about a 2.5 MPH average increase). What I like even better, though, is I NEVER have the stick knocked out of my hand anymore. The Grip is slightly smaller than the shaft, which fits an average sized hand better. (I think he has plans for a larger Grip for guys with really large hands.)

I know Joe has suggested you could always throw on an Oggie Grip after your OPS has broken, since you'll usually need to make up the difference in height anyway after cutting high enough to fit a blade.

I don't think you'd ever go back. I honestly think ten years from now we'll all wonder why it took so long to come up with this idea.

I wasnt planning on spending $24 for one, but i mean to say, like my SL, i took the composite butt end out of it because that made it to big. Now if i was to add this in it would be the same thing :S Its adding extra length to my stick that doesnt suit myself.

your supposed to take into account the grip in your shaft length, so you would be cutting into the SL's actual shaft and then making up that difference with the grip. im skeptical about it personally, but i may try one with a broken OPS

In that case, assuming you haven't hit your peak, wait 'til you grow then put an Oggie Grip in your old stick. Then ask yourself why you waited so long.... ;)

Seriously, he set up on Demo Days at Pure Hockey's main store and sold out of the Grips on the first day. What I mean by that is guys were able to take shots with the Grip and, instead of saying "Oh, that's kinda interesting," they said "I'll take one!"

Actually, I hadn't seen Joe's booth during the show; he came up to my booth as we were packing up. He was looking for sticks from different manufacturers to test the fit with his Oggie Grip. That was three less sticks I had to pack, so I let him have them.

Two weeks later he left a message telling me he had never heard of Salming or our G1, but he wanted to let me know he was so impressed by it that he had now officially retired his Famous Brand stick. I called him back and asked if he could send me an Oggie Grip to try, since they had been packed away at the Show when he introduced himself.

A couple of days later I was driving to my game, wondering "Man, what if I don't like this thing?" By the second time I used it, however, I absolutely loved it and now I'll never go without one.

Since then, we've become friends, because when you come from Titletown, Baby, you're part of the clique! ;)

(That's Beantown, in case you didn't know where Titletown is..... B) )

sorry... don't mean to rain on the product my any means, but what works for me is taping my stick like pavel datsuk and ilya kovalchuk a really thick upper shaft for better control of the stick and cupping the puck and shooting.

When you use the oggie grip, it's like a wheelbarrel handle, the opposite of how I tape my stick. I think it's interesting that the oggie grip has tested for harder shots, and taping my stick the way I do, I've radar'ed in higher for slappers and wristers.

Just interesting comments, I guess I didn't actually conclude anything there, but four games in a weekend will do that...

That is interesting, because we all know players that put maybe three inches total on their sticks, yet both you and Oggie have been able to show with radar that there are ways to improve upon just a straight stick.

By the way, have you tried the Classic Grip? You are correct that the Ergo is similar to a wheelbarrow handle, but the Classic Grip is straight. When I held the same stick with different Grips simultaneously, I preferred the Ergo, but the Classic is obviously an easier transition.

Ergo is too small for my hands.

The Classic would be too small, also, in that case.

As I said, he has plans to make a wider grip, because that's been a common feedback from guy who have larger hands. Conversely, a common response from seasoned veterans with medium hands or below was, "This reminds me of when we'd shave the top of our wooden sticks to make them fit better in our hands."
