My sister's used a Prius for as long as I can remember and loves it, especially now. Other than the mileage, I couldn't see getting one. I still don't see how you can fit in the damn thing.

I'd stay away from the insight, Honda rushed it out to beat the Prius to market and its got some gremlins in it and as a hybrid its not as efficient as the Prius or the newer civic and accords. Do your research, some of them perform better than others under different circumstances (ie city driving, a/c, heat etc) I just got 38mpg in the wife's civic ex on the highway over labor day and a used civic is a lot cheaper than a prius/civic hybrid.

The new civic hybrid coming out pretty soon looks decent but like freq019 said older civics get awesome gas milage. Mine gets over 30mpg and it only cost a lil over $30 to fill it here in VA.

Civic hybrids have been out for a year or two already.. I see them in Vancouver all the time but I guess that's the "hip" west coast thing

here's some results from tests done on the new 2005 models Link

looks like 46 mpg is tpyical on the civic hybrid.. with gas prices increasing its something to look at I guess.. I'm curious, has anyone driven one? Does it have any kick compared to full gas engines?

Oh yeah.. hybrids are not as good for highway driving because one of the big features of a hybrid engine is that it takes the energy from the wheels during breaking operations and stores it in a battery for use later.. so stoping and going are relatively efficient. When you're driving on the highway this doesn't happen so you get only maringally better gas milage. At least thats what I hear..

yea ive always wondered if they are ever going to have like a full hydrogen powered car that would be really cheap for fuel but still have the same kick and power that a 502 might have in it?

on a side note, i would rather buy a gasoline car for cheaper than the hybrid where you can get the same mileage (highway of course) and still have the room that you dont get in a hybrid. thats just my 2 cents though

Sorry, it never clicked for me.. I guess its about time for a new body style.. Link

I don't think the idea of a hydrogen powered car is to make it cheaper than gas.. More environmentally friendly and non-oil dependant is the goal.. eventually the prices will go down but who knows how low..

The problem currently with all hydrogen cars is the cost to the pump is still too high, and is arguably worse than that of a normal car. There is no argument that hydrogen cars are better for the environment but the production of liquid hydrogen is still too inefficient. Hopefully as other technologies develop that will change.
