Heel Lift in skates

Recommended Posts

Hi,

May I know the exact process of doing a heel lift in the shop? Do they need to take the holder off?

Can I achieve the same result (add more forward pitch) by putting something INSIDE the skate (under to heel part of insole) to lift my heel up??

Thanks!!!

I think if you put it inside the skate it would mess with how the skate fits.

No it doesn't. We are not talking a lot of lift, perhaps 1/32 inch to 1/16.

As for heel lifts, what are you trying to achieve?

you don't think that would make a difference inside the skate jimmy?

I think the support under the arch would be minimized, The anklebones would be moved higher slightly, and the way the laces will close over the tongue will be more open.

I think the best way is still to install your shims between the skate and holder.

If I'm a fast sprinter on the ground, and seem to always take too much ice when I try to accelerate quckly on the ice, is it a sign I need a heel lift or change in pitch. Would a lift plus like a cobra make sense in order to compensate for the fact I'm used to being on my toes so much?

grafs would be your best bet if you wan't to be on your toes, or missions with the pitch holder.

Well for me it works wonders, I use Dr. Sholls heel lifts in my mission S500's because I have flat feet and and no arch in my foot, I regularly would get pain in my arch but with the lift and my heel being higher in the skate, theres less pressure on my arch... makes all the difference in the world for me...

it also helps that the pitch holder is ajustable, I can balance things out... when I got them, I was on +1 setting, now I use a N setting, I basicly get a similar forward lean... coming from a Graf skate, I love the forward pitch...

thats my experience

what is a pitch holer??

There are 4 ways to achieve pitch, some better than others, but all work:

- Heel lift inside skate

- Spacer between holder and boot

- Custom radius

- Pitch Holder by Mission (uses a cam screw to lift skate in the rear.

I have a question about putting a lift in my skates. I've got arch pain when I am at practice. I'm guessing it is because you spend more time on the ice in practice than you do in a game, so the pain is eleviated when you're on the bench..

If I put a lift in, do you think it woudl get rid of the pain? I can just take them to my LHS, but I want to know if it is worth it before I do that..

BTW, I'm wearing G-35's and have relatively flat feet.

try in the skates, not between the boot and the holder

I tried it and it worked for me, you can also try a different footbed, Graf footbed are crap

i've got superfeet in them right now, the graf footbed didn't really do anything for me.

I'll give that a shot though

Running fast and skating are 2 different motions. You can be slow of foot on the ground but be a good skater---see it all the time--different muscles are used. A little lift in your skate might help you a little but technique and conditioning are the most important attributes in skating.
