Avoiding Bus Legs.

Recommended Posts

Just wondered if anyone has the same problems as me with bus legs and how they deal with them.

When I go on a long bus journey before a game (say 5 hours which is the longest one in my league) I feel tired when I get there before I have even kitted up. Just the travelling, and sitting down for that length of time makes me and some of my team mates feel a bit tired and subdued. It some takes me the warm up, plus maybe half of the 1st to get to feel as though I'm in the game properly.

On a shorter trip, say up to 2 hours, I rarely feel any different to a home game and come out of the blocks flying as I would in our own barn.

What do others do when they get to a road game to wake themselves up either before they get kitted up or during the warm up? and ideas would help me out!

Get your bus to drop you off maybe 1.5-2.5 k away from the rink. If it's still warm outside, you get your legs from walking, if it is still cold outside you get your legs from jogging. My team does that and seeing as we play in a completely U.S loop (and we're from Toronto) we have a lot of long roadies. Needless to say, we never start out flat.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Yeah I guess we are lucky, in our regular season the longest we have to go is 5 hours, but luckilly most of them are only like 1.5 to 2 hours, as we play in England and its very small compared to North America!

You can also do things akin to when you're on a long flight...i've had my share of 5 hours to Vegas and then a game 80 min after landing...

try to do stretches with your legs toes, etc to keep blood circulating...be careful not to eat a ton of crap..get up and stretch your hammy's..(at least for me this is big)...

definitely get some lt running in prior to it all at the rink..maybe a little more stretching ( I never stretched until my back issues..but its made such a difference in my skating..crazy and I only do 2-3 types) stay hydrated too..make sure you have some water, etc on the bus..

C'mon man, this question is like asking how to avoid the "when your girlfriend comes to visit you the night before your early Sunday morning game on the away weekend series in the team hotel" legs.

I mean c'mon if we had a remedy for that we'd all know it.

;)

Here's your remedy: Substitute 'wife' for 'girlfriend.' ;)
