Oct Attendance Record

Recommended Posts

Since we are on the October attendance topic I want to add that Edmonton successfully sold out every home game in October this year. The first time in like 15 years!

Interesting to hear some former "old timers" slamming Quinn for his comments....a very positive spin by his critics. I can believe attendance is up....I think the fans really do love the new product..with at least about 90% approval.....

The nature of hockey players/fans is they love to bitch...so instead of bitching and complaining about how the other team got away with murder in a dreary slow paced affair.....that put me to sleep more often than not......now they have the refs to bitch about...but in a game that keeps your attention..

I mean really without trying to sound like all the "talking heads" we see on the various sports networks....bottom line...I think we are seeing a much better version of the sport, where the players are beginning to enjoy it again too...and it shows...As they work out the adjustments, it will become more and more fun for them and exciting for us.....Players are being allowed to use those skills that got them excited to play the game as kids, and not bogged down with a systematic form of cheating they had been taught was the "way to play the game" for years. Of course they are getting more excited to play.....and the longer the "experiment" continues the better the chances it will have to survive...and recapture the hearts of players and fans again. Look at the overtime goal by Sergei Gonchard in last night's Penn's vs Devils...how many years since we have seen that sort of play???..(of course I spent the first 64 minutes of the game bitching about what an idiotic move the Penns made to spend all that money on him, with his giveaways, and stupid penalties)

Of course the true test will be after 5 months, not after the first month where curiosity and free tickets, or "specials" certainly could have accounted for a groundswell of attendance.

I think part of it is Hockey fans are unlike other sports casual fans... After a year lay off, fans are "Jones'n" for Hockey.... Hopefully teh levels continue to stay or rise...

Before we start doing cartwheels, let's think about all the various promotions that teams are running right now. Heck, in Boston you can get a free ticket for a kid under 12 with each adult ticket through Thanksgiving (US, that is).

I honestly think the real test for attendance will be next season when teams aren't giving away the farm to get behinds in the seats.

Interesting read.

What I'd like to know is of these sell out games, what is the actual attendance. I know, for example, when CBJ came to Vancouver this past week it was of course a sell out game, but there were MANY empty seats in the building, most likely season ticket holders that did not want to watch the CBJ play.

Of course, not that non attendance has any corellation with revenue as the tickets are already bought and paid for regardless if people show up or not, but still would be something interesting to find out about.

Actually, no shows can have a big impact on revenues. When you factor in concessions and merchandise, sometimes the ticket is the least of the money spent.

St. Louis Blues are a hurtin'! Attendance is down 5000-6000 a game from the previous season. They are supposedly the team that has experienced the sharpest drop in attendance (out of the 7). And of course the more games they lose, the less people show up in the seats. Bigtime snowball effect. I predicted a 32 win season for the Blues....now I realize that I may have overshot that figure by about a dozen wins.

Its good to see Chicago getting an increase in attendance. I thought that team was on a downwards spiral for sure.

Those numbers were inflated by the 10,000 wings fans that came down for one of the games. subtract that one game and they're below last season.
