Skate questions

Recommended Posts

I am an experienced and good skater, yet I have continuous problems with blisters.

I have been using bauer and CCM skates and was doing some research into the Mission S line of skates. Do these skates solve blister problems for anybody?

The blisters come on my the sides of my heels from my ankle moving when i take a stride.

I would have to agree that you should be properly fitted, it sounds like the skates you have been wearing aren't right for your foot.

I wear a size 11 shoe, and i have tried Bauers in everything from a 9.5 on up and CCMs in a 10.

I live in middle GA and I have to mail order my skates. Is this becuase they are not being heat molded?

also i get the standard "d" width.

Its funny. I played hockey of and on over the years, but the blister problem only seems to have been a major problem more recently.

MACH1,

I guess your skate is too big. I wear 10.5 size shoes and wear a 7.5 CCM/ 8 Bauer.

So for CCM, u should get size 8.

Since you mentioned u are a good skater, I'm sure u can do well in a snug fit skate. so, even a half size smaller than your EXACT fit is OK. Smaller is better than larger. of course perfect fit is best.

I was having some success with the 9.5 bauers, but there were days when my toes were just to smashed up and painful.

you can always wear a thinner sock incase your wear a standard workout sock which is pretty thick already.another thing may be that the heel is too wide for your foot.

I always wear just a thin cotton sock, a regular sock if you will.

I think the heel being to wide sounds logical. should i try a "C" width? they dont seem to be very readily available.

i dont think my heel is lifting though, i think its more of the sides of my ankle rubbing the boot when i bend my ankles.

i wear graf 704s. i switched from no socks to my wife's stockings(not knee-highs) and it really works. there is no slippage and the foot stays dry. the rubbing on my right ankle has subsided as well as the occasional blister on my inside heel too. try it.

edit: i also forgot to mention that i only lace my skate up to my 2nd last set of eyelets.

I wear a 10 or 10.5 running shoe (8.5 to 9 dress shoe for some reason), and have been wearing 7.5 Bauers. I once wore 9.5 Bauers and didn't have a problem with them, but the 7.5s are definitely better for me.

Any chance that the blisters are on a lumpy spot on the back side of your heel (ex. on the back-right on your right skate, and back left heel on your left skate)? Because if they are you might have the same problem as me, just having very narrow feet. If this is the case all I have to say is good luck with skates, and try finding a Graf dealer so you can get customs.

dress shoes always are a lot bigger than tennis/bball/running shoes.

now that would be sexy!

i assumed that by saying stockings that everybody would assume i was putting on those knee-high black stockings. i didnt even think of the full body hose. anyway, they are calf-high stockings i stole from my wife. but they are black.

I picked up some reebok 3k's in a size 9D. About the best thing available without going to a hockey specialty shop. They had some Bauer vapor XI, but they were real tight around my toes in the 9, where the reebok had more toe room.

Since the reeboks look similar to CCM, maybe ill have better luck with the size 9 RBK than i had with the size 10 CCM. I havent been able to skate in them yet. Was snowing and didnt want to get stuck driving, so maybe later this weekend.

Anyway, does CCM make RBK skates? they sure do look similar. Same toe box and blade holder. I think CCM's parent company is making the rbk'S AND LICENSING THIER NAME.

Anybody know for sure?

yes rbk owns thg (ccm) now so ccm basically makes their skates, similar technology, but dece slightly different

its THC(The Hockey Company) ,THG is (The Hockey Group) . two totally different companies.
