It was decent....probably a draw by most accounts but Gleason did pop Shanny with a solid shot to the nose and the blood was flowing. They showed him in the box with a towel that was covered with blood. Shanahan tried to get him to go later in the game but they both just ended up with unsportsmanlike calls.

Man, I love Shanny...good job by the rookie to bust up his nose, but leave it to Shanny to keep at 'em even after getting a bloody snout. :lol:

An interesting side note, and JA, not sure if you stayed to the end, but, when Avery scored late (and yes, I know Detroit already had the game in the bag), NOBODY on the Kings went to congratulate him on the goal, or, even stand up on the bench to give him a high five. I wonder if his teammates feel that his act has gone too far?

I think it was more of a "why bother celebrating?" incident. Avery himself barely even celebrated.

Avery is such a dumbass. I remember reading there where a number of his teammates that didn't like him (I remember they dropped the name Lappy) but the article said about 6 didn't like him and never talked to him.

I was at the game as well and feel that Gleason is really making a push to be a leader in LA the way he was last year in Manchester. 

The trade that brought him to LA is one of the better ones in Kings history when you think that he was a high first round pick by Ottawa and they got him for Bryan Smolinski.

As far as the fight goes, I thought to myself "holy sh*t, he's going with Shanny."  It took a second for it to register, but, I'd say that he did what it needed to be done.

An interesting side note, and JA, not sure if you stayed to the end, but, when Avery scored late (and yes, I know Detroit already had the game in the bag), NOBODY on the Kings went to congratulate him on the goal, or, even stand up on the bench to give him a high five.  I wonder if his teammates feel that his act has gone too far?

I completely concur with your thoughts on Gleason. This Kid's really making a push to be a real leader on the team. Not an easy task when up against the likes of Jeremy Roenick among other verbose individuals.

My opinion on Avery is this: He's a good player but lacks the common sense to back up being a complete asshole on and off the ice. He's made himself a marked man not only in the eyes of his opponents, but with league officials as well. No matter what he does from here on out he's never going to get the benefit of the doubt other players get.

I think from the standpoint of his teammates, they do try to back him and support him. If they didn't Ryan Flinn wouldn't be in the hospital right now after beating the shit out of Vandermeer, and Shannahan wouldn't have had a bloody nose. I think the goal celebration or lack thereof was indicative of a 5-2 Detroit lead with 50 seconds left in the game. It’s a shame that Avery doesn't fight his own battles. I think I've only seen him fight 1 time this whole season and I've seen almost every game the Kings have played thus far. If he actually backed up the shit he talked, I might actually be a fan of his. But, when he just turtles and keeps talking shit he might as well throw on a visor and skate away with sand in his vagina.

Incidently, I think Lappy's loathing of Avery is mostly the result of Sean's comments about french canadian players. Its funny because even back in preseason Lappy tried to fight Avery and Avery just backed down.

I was at the game when Lappy challenged Avery. Then later in the game Tanguay out of nowhere LEVELS him into the boards and Avery gets up and tries to go with Tang but May steps in and of course Avery just runs away like a little bitch. Its getting common place now for Avery to act like a pus- other than Fletch having a crush on him, I wonder if anybody really respects him.

Avery is a useful player but his act is tiring... to the fans, coaches, refs, and his teamates for sure. Does that mean he's expendable? Probably not at the moment. He's the least of the Kings worries right now with a totally inept power play.

Gleason has been good though and that fight last night was terrific...

I certainly don't doubt that some of his teammates don't particularly like him, especially after making uncalled for comments about French-Canadian players. Guys like that don't belong in the game, and I'd imagine that any French-Canadian player now has a reason to dislike him.

I'd like to see Vinny Lecavalier dump Avery and then see Avery try to go at it with him...I was absolutely thrilled to see Vinny drop the gloves a few times in 03/04 and battle fiercely, coming out on top, I'd say, a couple times...

I don't hate, dislike, or despise Avery in anyway. He just embarrasses me as a kings fan. I sit here game after game thinking: "Avery's gonna show 'em he's going prove everyone wrong" and then when he gets a chance to really prove himself and show what that little 5'9" guy can do he backs down.

But to be honest as Jay said the Kings couldn't be bothered with Avery at the moment in terms of his gameplay at least, our PP is terrible and our innabillity to score with the man advantage is making the difference in a lot of games. Not to mention Jeremy Roenick's poor skating and his decisions to perform 360's with the puck that acheive absolutely nothing but turnovers.

how is avery any different the maltby? maltby is a just as much of a punk on the ice as avery. avery just runs his mouth. when was the last time you say maltby fight anyone of significance?

you obviously dont watch much kings games because avery can and will score 20 goals in a season. he has crazy speed and if he ever could learn to finish he will be a good energy player.

i am sorry but avery is smart for not fighting guys twice his size. he is not an enforcer and he is not a fighter. you guys just want to see him get his butt kicked, not stand up and fight someone. i would be perfeclty fine if fans just said avery should fight a "enforcer" so he gets his but kicked and learns his lesson instead and ignnorantly stating he turtles.

Maltby is an agitator of the first and finest order, Avery is just an idiot that as you said, "runs his mouth off." Maltby doesn't need to fight anyone, he respects others and they respect him.

Avery, he talks a tough game, but he sure doesn't play one. Tie Domi fights guys twice his size. Jarome Iginla isn't the biggest guy out there (granted, he's an ox), but he drops 'em with anyone. Avery only talks like he's tough, and then does nothing to "back it up," yet he feels free to rail on French players with visors for being pussies and not "backing anything up."
