Dangles

Rookie of the Month

Recommended Posts

He's playing great 0 points in his last five games according to his TSN player profile page. Plus he's a whopping +1 on a team that's 15-9-3. Meanwhile Brent Seabrook is a +4 on a team that's 10-14-1 and is trailing Phaneuf by two points in two fewer games.

Nice to see a d-man take this month's honours with the likes of Crosby and Ovechkin lighting it up among the rookies.

Hopefully he has a season that will prove this honour worthwhile.

Ovechkin for December's honours, anyone?

Ovechkin is routinely playing with guys who were here in Hershey a month ago. If that kid had any help he would be lapping the field.

Fine, I'll go play for them.

As long as you're willing to play for free AOL access it should be a done deal, just email TedLeonsis@aol.com

I agree with you Chadd. AO is playing with guys that just got to this level, or isn't playing consistently enough with guys that have been in the league awhile (Cassels). Meanwhile, Crosby is playing with Palffy, Lemieux, Recchi, LeClair. I really hope the writers or whoever makes the award selection takes that into SERIOUS consideration.

I would also hate to see Crosby win it just because people think he should due to the hype. Kinda like, "Yeah OK, we heard about this kid for so long, may as well just give him the award."

When it comes to the end of the season, and Crosby is miles ahead of AO, then fine. But if it's close, they really gotta look at ALL the factors.

It won't be close. Teams really only have to shut down Ovechkin unless they can find other guys to score on a semi-regular basis.

Well the Pens aren't exactly scoring a ton either right now.

But I'm sure they will pick up, and true, AO is really the single threat on that team.

this discussion can go on for hours boys... but mr gary bettman is a biased @$#%$# and i really doubt anyone except crosby is going to get a look at for the rookie of the year honors..

When did Gary Bettman beging running some sort of dictatorship on the NHL awards? Last time I checked that award was voted on by the Professional Hockey Writer's Association...

Not if they're locked into multi-year contracts, no-trade clauses, etc. I wouldn't think so. But then again, this new CBA is chock-full of little gems, so who knows.

is it true after a year rookies can pretty much pick where they wanna play?

7 years of NHL experience before they become unrestricted FA's. So AO will be 27 and Crosby will be 25 when they can decide what team they want to play for.

Newsflash - Rangers are helping AOs bid for Rookie of the Year...1 g 3 assists tonight. I guess the Rangers are allowed a stinker after going undefeated the past 6 or so games.

Congrats to Phanuef. I watched the Pens/Flames game tonight and either Mike Lange or Bob Errey commented that he looks like a ten year veteran out there.
