Can anyone give me a legitimate reason why Brent Seabrook is not on the list, let alone above Phaneuf? Other than Pierre's slobbering on Phaneuf's jock of course.

Dion Phaneuf 30GP 6G 9A 15 points +1

Brent Seabrook 27GP 4G 12A 16 points +7

I´m with you. I watched that list frequently during last month and only at one time I saw Seabrook on it. I think after he had a 1 goal + 2 assists night....

Since they say "TSN.ca´s favorites for the Calder Trophy" I don´t know what Carter, Jokinen, Vanek and Vorobiev are doing there anyway.

You can easily cut that down to Sid, AO, Phaneuf, Seabrook, Lundquist + Svatos to make it 5. There you have your All-Rookie Team.

Okay...we all know that Crosby is getting the Calder anyway unless gets injured or the NHL decides to make AO their new poster boy

There is no reason for Seabrook not to be ahead of Phaneuf, other than who he's playing for and the lack of exposure he may get (in Canada, specifically).

He's had a great start to the season and would be in the running for the Calder any other year. Double cohort hurts a few guys chances at making the all-rookie team.

How many minutes does Seabrook log? I'm pretty sure Phaneuf is in the 21 minute range, which is something they love to dwell on.

Besides, it's a known fact Steen is the best rookie in the NHL, so the list is pointless. 1st line for 5 on 5, PK and PP, honestly no competition :)

I think Boyes is going to come on strong. He was only averaging about 5 minutes a game for the first ten games, but now he's in the regular rotation and his numbers are increasing.

18:01 and it's increasing. Once Yawney learns to trust players that haven't played in Norfolk he'll get even more.

Seabrook got injured at the WJC I believe. Seabrook is definitely not getting the media attention alongside Phaneuf that he deserves, but it's obvious that it's a symptom of the Phaneuf hype and playing in what was once a great hockey city. That aside, I love both guys, but think that Phaneuf has a higher ceiling.

I think you can cut Carter out of the running if you want, but let's leave Mike Richards in there - he's a winner. The year off sure did make this year a deep rookie class, and the season is barely a quarter over, so let's see how things go in the second half...

SalmingUSA, you are right, I think Boyes will continue to make a strong, albeit quiet case for himself as the season progresses. He'll really get a chance to build up some leadership with Thornton gone.

EDIT: Is Shea Weber tooling around somewhere in the AHL? I don't see why Atlanta doesn't bring him up, they sure could use any help they can get in stopping the opposition from scoring...

Carter is playing much better than Richards right now. The kid can play on any line. He reminds me of a grittier Simon Gagne.

I dunno about that man, Richards doesn't need to hit the scoresheet to make a difference, and in close games like the one against Calgary, he made the difference both on and off of it. I strongly believe that when Forsberg/Gagne don't show up, Mike Richards is often there to pick up the slack.

Boyes has quietly had a nice season so far. Now that he's been reunited with his P-Bruins pal, Bergeron, he's been one of the few consistent producers since the trade.

You're going to use a shootout goal as an example? Carter had a great move on the very next shot, but Kipper just got enough of his pad on it. They have roughly the same stats with Carter getting 5 minutes less time on the ice (because of how well Richards was playing to start the season).

Carter was sick to start the season and its taken him a little to get upto snuff. He'll be a better player, there's no doubt in my mind. I like Richards, but Carter does everything Richards does and more. Brad Boyes has played well in every game I've seen, I can't believe it's taken him so long to crack an NHL roster. He is a fair chunk older than most other "rookies" in the league, which are getting the press. He's an '82 I believe and most other rookies are 2-4 years younger.

I would say its 5 minutles less because of how well Richards plays DEFENSIVELY!

Carter is a decent defensive player and more physical than Richards. He gets more playing time on the PK than Richards does.
