Damn. They should do a Penny-Irkle "What would their kid look like" like they do on Conan O'Brien where they morph celebrities' faces to see what their kids would like.

Yup. I think I mentioned on here before that I hung out with him. Another fraternity at my college paid to have him come down. They got to bowl with him, err I mean, throw him down a wooden floor into some pins. I think they also midget tossed him onto a mattress or something.

I got to drink a 40 with him. He's so friggin cool. Whatever he says makes absolutely no sense, but he's just cool.

I heard that Penny Hardaway is, and Damon Stoudamire as well. I heard a nasty Penny/Jaleel White rumor back in Orlando...

My boy Rob used to do sports in Orlando, and he told me the Penny / Jaleel story as well. If I'm not mistaken, it was Shaq (after / before an actual interview) that told him...

I live here in Edmonton and my Dad was telling me stuff about Glenn Anderson. I don't really remember him playing here since I was just born, but my Dad told me everyone used to call him Glenda at games and thought he was gay. One rumor that was floating around about him was that he was having a pool-party and one of his boyfriends, or something (details really aren't clear since it's an old rumor) drowned in his pool. Might be complete bullshit, just what I've heard.

I looked into this the Glen Anderson business, and someone told me they heard he was a dead-beat Dad. That it was reported he wasn't paying child support (this goes back at or before his Ranger days).

I guess this doesn't mean he isn't gay. But at least he's procreating.

Sorta getting back to the original post, this would be signifigant because he is a male athlete at a high level coming out while he is still playing in a male sport with a predominately male audience.

I'm going to make some very unfair generalizations here about the American male:

Guys do not figure skate, hot chicks and homos figure skate.

Guys believe most female atheltes are gay with the exception of beach volleyball players, figure skaters, swimmers, and curlers.

Women's sports are unworthy of viewing except for beach volleyball, solo figure skating, swimming, and curling.

Guys don't care if a female athelte "comes out" because a female athlete "coming out" is about as surprising as the sun rising.

Guys don't care if a woman is gay, we look a lesbians as challenges and potential 3'somes.

Guys do care if a man is gay. They are gross, they are trying to trick you into sex with them, and are not to be trusted. They are to be hated and feared.

Guys watching an openly gay man on television will regularly make comments about "that fag/fairy/fudgepacker" to make sure everyone knows they do not approve of his lifestyle. On the rare occassion when they pay him a compliment, they will end it with "too bad he's a fag/fairy/fudgepacker."

I could go on but I better stop before you all get the wrong idea about me. The above statements are not really my own feelings, but I think they do offer a tounge-in-cheek yet sadly realistic look at the views held by lots of people.

Which, after much rambling, brings me to my point.

If Latendresse is gay, I wish him the best. He is going to have a very very harsh road ahead of him. He may have just destroyed his potential NHL career. A Homophobic GM may hesitate to sign him for fear of disturbing his players and team camraderie.

As for who is or isn't, having a wife or girlfriend doesn't mean much. The term is "a beard." It means you wear a disguse (girlfriend/wife,) in public to hide your real identity (a homosexual.)

I find the game of guessing who is and who isn't rather distasteful. What a man does behind closed doors is nobody's business but his own and the person(s) behind that door.

Well said, Rusty.

Brent Sutter doesn't seem to have a problem with Latendresse just yet...guess we'll see when the team is named...

Guillaume isn't gay, even if he would be, I don't know why Brent would have a problem with it, as long as he's doing the job on the ice.

Like many others have said, a lot of people are homophobic. Nothing you can do about it beyond educating people. It's unfortunate, but it exists.

Yeah but with modern times and is also in the charter of rights, you have to except people for what they are. If a coach at that level can't accept a player's orientation, that offends that players right. Huge consequences could follow and I don't think a coach would even dare to do such a thing and jeopardize his whole career for such a thing. People are way open minded these days, alot more than the 50's and so on. People in their 40's that complain about change are considered too old fashionned. People in their 20's who think change is bad are considered immature.

You might think that people would be more open minded, but modern times has just revealed certain people's true views on issues such as homosexuality. It is certainly more "acceptable," now on a societal level, but there are still those out there that are largely ignorant. The charter of rights, well, I think I can safely say that it is being violated on a daily basis, and it's tough to fight a battle when it's gay man vs. the norm, especially in pro sports.

Besides, while a coach may hold certain beliefs which keep a player off a team, numerous other excuses can be made public so it seems as though that player was given every chance...

While the coach may not have a problem with it, keep in mind that these other players range from 16-19 and who at those ages are mature enough to get past something like that?

Some are, some certainly aren't. Hell, some older folks probably aren't either. *coughcoughSeanAverycoughcough*

Shea could have is own forum and bandwith would be exceeded. We could go on for days and days about him, he's just a fake Jeremy Roenick I think. He's getting way more attention than he deserves.

But it's just so goddamn fun to argue with some people on this board!! :D

Keep in mind how subjective selecting a player for a team can be. To prove that a guy didn't make a team because he was gay would be extremely difficult.

It is my opinion that people like to say they are open minded but those same people shudder at the thought of their own child being gay. In other words it is easy to say you are open minded until it confronts you personally. Only then will you know if someone is truely open minded.

I'll give you an example. Me.

I'm straight. My wife has a high school friend who is openly gay. I'm cool with it. We hang out some. Super nice guy. Flaming, but super nice. I am very open minded. My wife who has been his friend since high school is very open minded "Steve" gets a job as a flight attendant and is going to be moving to California. We are invited to a going away party. There are about 30 people there. 28 of them are gay. They are dancing and grinding. "Steve" is kissing another guy. They are open mouth kissing. I am very uncomfortable, but I am trying to be open minded. My wife tells me she is getting creeped out. She announces we are leaving. It turns out we both were not as open minded as we thought we were. It turns out "Steve" nd his friends' homosexuality was ok until we actually saw it in action. Then, as much as we like to say we are open minded, being gay was not ok.

That experience was a real shock to me. It showed me that I am not as open minded as I thought I was.

So it's easy to say people are open minded, it is the right thing to say. But I think in reality it is often not true. The Charter of Rights is just a bunch of words that are good ideas. No law can force a person to like another.

Which Sutter was the coach of the Blackhawks that picked up Arnason by his neck and proceeded to verbally assault him, questioning him on his manhood and work ethic?

If this Sutter is the same that's the coach of this dude, I could DEFINATELY see him having a problem with his sexual orientation.

I believe that was Brian Sutter.

Brent Sutter is the coach of the Canadian WJC squad.

I seriously doubt that Latendresse is gay. He's obviously accepting of the gay lifestyle if he is in the magazine and they probably asked him to do an interview because he is a male sex symbol in Quebec now. The fact that a girl did the interview and that she asked him if he had a girlfriend is the tell-tale piece of evidence for me. Plus I've seen many interviews with him and I've never got the vibe from him that I do from most gay males. He was probably just flattered at the fact that gay men find him attractive and decided to go out on a limb and do the interview. David Beckham did the same thing a few years back and he is not gay. Maybe Latendresse has a gay friend or family member and just wanted to make a statement. We may never know his motivation for doing the interview.

On a side note, his brother (drafted by the Coyotes I believe) is tearing it up in the Q this year too. He has more points that Guillaume right now. However, he has played more games. Both of them could be in the show together next year.

Guillaume seems to make things happen whenever he is on the ice. He is going to be a successful NHL'er I think. Gay or not gay, I can't wait to see him in a habs jersey.

As for Richer. Not sure if he is gay either, but man did he have the dangle back in the day. Actually, he still does. He played in a charity game last season and tore it up. Looked better than some of the active pro's IMO.
