golfpuck

who else was great at one timing the puck?

Recommended Posts

Mogilny was (and probably still is) with his wrist shot when he holds his hands really high on the shaft. One big sweeping motion, its great to see.

edit to add if you can call a wrist shot a onetimer :)

iv'e noticed that too, its a one-timer but with a wrister instead of slap........

mccabe is #1 the short list of NHL players i've seen consistantly 1 time the puck. the run he had in the playoffs in 04 with leetch was incredible, he had like 8 goals or something all off one timers.

kovalchuk is also has a great one timer, even though he seems to be able to aim it only at one place, but am i right in assuming that about 50% of the one timer is in the pass?

I would say even more than 50 %, look at kaberle with McCabe this year, Kab always does a good one time pass. The pass is very important. Gretz with Kurry, Lemieux with Kovy, KAb/Leetch with McCabe, Dats with Hull were pretty good too, these are all great passers. and the shooter just have to redirect it to the net and there is goal or a rebound...

These are McCabe's stats. I think the 50% speaks for itself in here.

GP G (Partner)

2005-06 Toronto NHL 38 14 --> Kaberle

2003-04 Toronto NHL 75 16 --> Klee/Kaberle/Leetch (big start & finish)

2002-03 Toronto NHL 75 6 ---> Svehla

2001-02 Toronto NHL 82 17 --> Kaberle

McCabe had a career high in the playoffs of 5 goals (in 20 games) when playing with Kaberle in 01-02 as well. He had 3 last year with Leetch. The 16 goal season started with Kaberle, went to Klee, finished with Leetch.

i can't believe mccabe played with svehla, quinn was an idiot in those days. actually, quinn is still an idiot.

why don't they have one timers in the all star competition? it's much more applicable to the actual game of hockey than a standing slapshot from the blueline or wherever it's taken
