cgin6 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 im starting to see that happen on my hot shots also...cept on the front wheel. also pieces of the urethane have been chipping off on the inside edge. this after 4 uses. im going to keep an eye on it.
Vishi05 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 It shouldn't be happening at $8.50 a wheel.I'm wondering if hockey giant will exchange it for a wheel that works.
LickerLongTail 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 I use Kuzak Havok wheels and I love them, but im always wanting to try something new. at about 6 a wheel they are nice and very grippy for sport court. Not to bed either on wear and tear.
ExitTwoEighty 7 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 A friend of mine has his wheels ripping up and you could see the wheel detach from the core inside within a week.

What surface are you playing on? We dont use the Hornets on anything but sport court...4 months and counting...3 times a week or more in MLRH and PIHA, and practice. The first set we used in 2003, came apart quickly when used on a urethane finished wood surface. This is also true for most high grip wheels, whether Labeda, Hyper, Rink Rat etc. Would also be true on asphalt or possibly untreated concrete.
cgin6 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 im playing on painted concrete. the stuff left over when the ice is taken off. and its the good painted kind not in comparison to other rinks ive seen where the coat is uneven in places. i played today and it doesnt look like it has gotten any worse so thats good news. im am wondering if i got an early batch of wheels which has been mentioned in other threads as having durability problems. i also noticed when i got these wheels that there are some good sized bubbles in the wheels. These are not the cause of the urethane shedding problems but mite be an indication of their batch? I hope these arent blem wheels because i bought them direct RR. Is the stuff "sanded paint" meaning it has sand rolled into the paint to give grip? Or does the rough concrete surface show through the paint? If so this will tear up anything but hard outdoor wheels. If its just a regular latex paint, and slippery, then contact Mike Hunt at RR and they will no doubt take care of you. The "bad batches" that I have seen were in last years Hornets, and I have not heard this about the Hot Shots anywhere...not to say it didn't happen.
Vishi05 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Hockey Giant called me yesterday and told me that the rep from Halo gave him a new set of the red Halo wheels for me for free. I'll be sure to give you all a rundown of how those work for me.
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I have/use Halo's and they've been holding up great. I used the new milleniums, and in one skates the front 2 wheels have chunked out. This was also on polished concrete. You think your Halo's look bad? Ill post the pictures sometime soon. Chuck @ Labeda was nice enough to send me replacement milleniums. They said that those people over 150pounds shouldnt be using those wheels. Which is total BS, considering i have been using them for countless years without them chunking. Vishi05 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2004 I got my new Halos on Sunday morning and have skated in two games with them. The grip is great and the speed feels better than before. Not only that, no problems with cracks or chunking, in fact I still have the seem on my wheels. I've heard that the second batch was much better than the first though and I got some from the second batch. If you're a big boy like me, I'd still suggest using the red instead of the blue.
