Sorry to threadjack, but searching didn't turn much up on this.

Are there shaft or blade size differences between intermediate and senior sticks? I'm an adult and use a sr stick, cut down 2-3 inches usually. And some of the int-sized sticks seem that they would work for me height-wise (and the whippy flexes would be good for me too). Am I losing anything else in specfications (besides blade pattern choices) going from a sr down to an int?

the shaft dimentions are usually smaller. blade is sometimes smaller, but not always the case. i do know some smaller 16-17 year olds that used int sticks when playing midgets. if you can find a flexible sr stick, you will be better off... but it really comes down to preference. you may find that int sticks simply break easier because of your size and level of play.

with regards to Reaper's original question... yes, weight will be changed, you are cutting off 5 inches of material... will the weight change be drastic, no, but changed none the less. the biggest impact will be on flex. shortening a shaft that much will make a large change to the stiffness. my biggest confusion with your original question though, is you mentioned buying from "Any High OPS maker", then you mentioned not wanting to spend 100+ dollars. what kind of sr OPS are you looking to buy... if you dont want to spend the money... stick to wood!!!

With the engineered low kick points of OPS and the taper towards the bottom of the shaft to the blade, cutting a stick won't have the same effect on flex that it did on sticks which flexed towards the middle of the shaft.

according to the NBH Catalog '07 see MSH .pdf catalogs p.23. There is a guidelines to flex changes according to shaf length. This should be relatively proportional to all brands until composite technology in hockey shafts/sticks changes dramatically. They don't differentiate between taper and non-taper sticks. Separately, the location of kick point in shaft (generally - including non-hockey uses such as golf or composite fishing rods) does not change the effect of shortening a shaft and the flex increase one gets from the shortening, i.e. the location of the actual location of the kickpoint is independent of flex changes due to shortening from the butt end. The relative position of the flex point/kickpoint to the overall length would change.

3. No, you're removing material

4. Yes, the shaft width will be the same if you cut it, however the flex will increase.

5. Yes, just buy an intermediate OPS, or a good woodie.

I dont see why this is an issue. If you can afford a high end SR OPS, then you should have the means to locate the proper stick for your needs (such as a suitable INT OPS).
