Developer Wants Hockey Back in Hartford!

Recommended Posts

By "replace the Civic Centre" do they mean they're tearing down the Mall and going to build a new arena on site, or are they looking to build it somewhere else?

Also, the developer is looking for public money, which is often controversial. Will the request even be considered? I seem to remember when I left Hartford ('98), someone was looking to build a stadium near the waterfront and wanted their development subsidized. There was a bit of an outcry. (Can anyone refresh my memory on this? thx.)

So next year the salary cap will be back to the mid 40's..some teams will still be spending the floor..~30mil and it'll only be another year or 2 before the same issues come about...because there are still major issues with revenue sharing,

Revenue sharing always was the key to properly resolving the NHL's problem.

There has been talk of an NHL coming back to hartford for awhile now.I cant see it happening for atleast 4 more years. Right now they are renovating the civic center so i doubt it will be knocked down within the next 10 years.

Only a 16 000 seat arena, seams kinda small.

I thought the NHL had a requirement that all new arenas had to offer either 17.5K or 18.5K seats?

Yeah I thought so too. Like right now the MTS Center in Winnipeg is too small to get an NHL team. They would have to raise the roof and add another ring of stands for them to respect NHL rules.

There's still the problem of fans coming to watch them play. Granted, there may be more than there are in Carolina, but the fans screwed up the first time around, didn't they? There's really no reason to think that it won't happen again.

Ive heard Pittsburg to Qubeec or Winapeg. Recently I have heard that they are def. staying in Pitssburg, but who knows. I say if they go to Quebec, they have to wear those sexy ass Nordique jerseys.

Even with everyone talking about the Penguins leaving Pittsburgh recently, I'd be surprised if they actually do. I think all Mario's comments about it already being too late were nothing more than a kick in the ass to get the politicians jump started on this before it really is to late. I'd love to see a team back in Hartford but I don't think it will happen, at least not soon anyway. I think the minor league team is having problems just meeting minimum attendance requirements.

I highly doubt the pens are leaving pittsburgh with this recently being released (http://www.pittsburghpenguins.com/team/features/arts/1544.0.php) unless it falls through.

They announced a partner in a project that requires the state to give them a slot machine license. There are nearly 30 applicants for the three slots licenses not given to horse racing tracks. That announcement means absolutely nothing. They are trying to blackmail the state commission that is determining who gets the licenses and it is not helping their cause according to some of the people I know who are part of the process.
