Good Hockey Podcasts?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone into listening to podcasts? Hockey news is kind of anemic down here in Texas, so if there's a good NHL-wide (i.e. not just concentrating on one team, or on only Canadian teams, or anything like that) podcast I could listen to on my commute that would be cool.

I'm going to revive this since it exists because my question is the same....anyone know of some good hockey podcasts? I subscribe to the Backhand Shelf podcast which is done by a couple blog writers for TheScore.com. Any others out there floating around that are decent?

Another vote for the Backhand Shelf. Pizzo and Bourne are great guys. Down to earth and don't favor one team. It helps that Bourne just came off a pro career and gives us little ''insights''...

They are funny and I like their insights. The fact that they stay neutral for teams, as far as discussion, is pretty cool. I get a kick out of the wagering Wednesdays and Beer-a-bility Friday's. Just a kind of guy talk. Part of me wishes they were longer, but at the same time it's okay since they do 3 a week normally. They are doing almost 5 a week now because of playoffs. Good stuff.

And thanks for the other mentions. I'm going to check those out.

Backhand Shelf and Marek vs. Wyshynski are both solid choices. Justin Bourne also does a series of excellent posts on the Backhand Shelf blog. One is Systems Analyst and the other is The Whiteboard (look under the tag "teaching" for that one). Great stuff.

One of my favorite things about M v W (besides their overall style, of course) is they are very consistent - every weekday, with very rare exception. So if something happens on the ice or in the league, you can be sure they will dig in on the very next day. They know their history (especially Marek), but it all centers around the minute by minute flow of the NHL.

So I could be wrong, but I wouldn't guess that their podcasts have much of an evergreen nature to them. Much better fresh.

I assume all of the podcast listed are NHL-centered? Is there such a thing as a hockey podcast about playing? Tips, equipment, etc?

So I've listened to 2 of the latest M v W podcasts and am hooked. Great information and flow to the podcast. The fact that each is around 1hr+ long is great. I listen to these podcasts while at work. Also very cool that it's daily. My only gripe about the Back Hand Shelf podcast is that they are normally only 3 days a week.

Backhand shelf had Joel Ward on the other day after his OT goal.

Cool that they bring in players once in awhile.

The Blueline Hockey Talk Radio is good, news around the league and humour as well, the host does some good research and wit h his weird humour, can be very insightful...something a lil entertaining and funny in equal measures.

I met him in Vegas a few years back and JR did a spot with him. I haven't listened to it in years.
