RBK 9K PUMP skate question

Recommended Posts

So I am thinking about giving these skates a shot. But before I do I have a couple questions and if any of you hockey guru's could answer that would be awesome.

From previous posts I've read that the 9k is pretty much the same as the 8k skate plus the pump. Well is that true ? Because I've read the hockey news and there is says that the 9ks are quite different and that thanks to the pump they offer great foreward flex ? Can anyone confirm this because the 8k's in my opinion are very stiff.

Also from people who have used these skates are they really worth the $$$ ?

I also found out that with my skates they always loosen up and I hate it because I like the snug fit but not to the point where my foot is jammed inn. Well I have a pair of Vapor XX's right now, they are great but as soon as I skate in them for about 30 minutes or so they get loose and I have to re-tie them which is a pain in a butt. I am assuming thats the whole point of the PUMP on the 9k's ?

And yeah I have never skated on the CCM holder, I have always used TUUk's will there be a noticable difference ?

And yeah, with these skates will I shoot the lights out like Crosby ?

I highly doubt it. Although there is a chance... a very slim one..

Try a 8k on one foot and a 9k on the other. Do it blindfolded so you don't know which skate is which. Then pick the most comfortable. Likely it would be the 9k, comfort is why they cost more. The 8k is a very comfortable skate as well, but if you are compasing the two, the 9k would win.

You'll see no difference in performance with the E holder over the Tuuk, except for increased durability of the steel and ease of hardware/maintenence.

I would like to know whether the 9K has the "wide mid-foot" feature of 8K??

Does anyone know it or can help me to ask a RBK rep?

Thx

You say that your skates loosen up and you have to retie them, instead of spending tones of money just buy a pair of waxed laces

I've tried waxed laces doesn't work, they just mess up my hands. The thing is its the padding, once it gets wet from sweat it gets much softer therefor creating more room in the skate, so there really is not much I can do.

$799.99 CDN here in Halifax.

Holy crap, that's high! Plus GST and PST, wow. You're getting up near goal pad prices.

I can't post what I am selling them at but it's way less than that.

They're $789 in my store. Try waxed laces and backlacing before you go and dump a whole bunch of money on a new skate. The lace lock will help, but as far as the bladder preventing you laces coming loose, I don't think they'll do the trick.

I also am looking at the 9K Pump...but I'm wondering if there is any differences between 9K Senior and Junior skates. From what I've seen the top end CCM/RBK senior skates are still Canadian made versus top end CCM/RBK junior skates are Asian made. I'm currently skating in Junior 1052's and they Canadian made. I still finding it's hard to get a straight answer on the senior/junior skate thing. I like the big savings in cost.....but do the manufacturers cut the overall quality in the junior skate. I'm 5'7" and weigh 155 lbs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all the experts out there. Also, any comments regarding the other top end CCM/RBK skates. (Vector Pro, Pro Tack etc.)

I've tried the search mode but really haven't a difinitive answer.

Personnally, I am holding out for the one 90, I was just curious to see what the 9k was selling for(dare I say overpriced).

You have to remember, it's the retailer who sets prices, so if your retailer has the 9k overpriced, they will do the same for the 190.

I've always been in CCM product because of my wide fore foot. From what I see on this forum the ONE90 is not going to be cheap.....just as expensive, if not more than the 9K Pumps.

The junior skate won't be as stiff as the senior version. Haven't seen the 9k JR yet but from past experiences with CCMs, you'll have high-end features in them.
