At what point do you replace your wood blade

I have a nice wood blade but the toe is starting to flare. I did replace it but would it be considered a no no to keep playing with it?

For me, wood blades get soft and whippy. I rarely use them long enough to have them actually break.

The only wood blade so far that have passed that test, brand new, are Sherwood SOPs and some other pro return blades.

I compare it to when I got them brand new. I can generally see my shot being effected, then I'll check it.

I use them until they physically break.

I just keep old blades and use em for street hockey or recurve them for fun.

i use them till they are worn down and chipped near the toe of the blade.

I switched to OPS, but I still do this...

I bounce my stick on the toe of the blade, if I hear a rattle I know there is a crack somewhere and replace it (make sure its not the butt end).

If there is no rattle, but the toe looks dangerous, I'd also replace it. If you missed a stick check and hit someone in the face, mid-section, or back of the legs you could do some damage with a jagged blade.

I'm sure there are rules about this. Mainly you just want to change it because the weakend blade weakens your shot.

I also do the bounce test. If it rattles, that becomes my drop-in stick.

Use them till they start to lose there shape and get soft.

As soon as i feel the blade wobble when i take a slapper. Also if i can bend it considerably with my hand. Or if the bottom of the blade is splintering to s**t
