If you dont want to spend any money, old golf balls are fine. Otherwise you can pick up wood "swedish stick handling" balls at craft stores or spend under $10 for a smart hockey ball. I like the smart hockey ones.
analog999 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I have the smarthockey balls and they're good. They're not quite the weight of a puck (or at least not of the pucks I have in my bag), but I do like them. The kwikhands set appears to be very heavy balls to help you build your wrist strength. All I basically got from their site is:1) You need to learn how to use your upper hand to do all the movement of the stick2) You need/should build your strength with heavy balls that can only be moved with the proper wrist motion3) Repetition is keyI think that getting a heavier ball is a good idea, as it will help you develop your wrist muscles. I would say to find one with a sheath like the smart hockey balls is going to be harder. I will look though and see if I can't find something that might work at the store. As for the "proper wrist motion" I don't know what that is, but I can only imagine there are a few ways to move your wrist. I think what is more important than spending any money on any "system" is to actually go out and practice. For that matter, the Smart Hockey disc 2 or 4 would give you drills that will help you and also give you one of the balls. I saw them on a website a couple weeks ago for $10 (cd & ball included). I don't think that deal can be beat.
analog999 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Btw, my first thought on heavier balls is maybe going and getting some round fishing weights... anyone have any other ideas?
dstidham 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I like using the golf balls for quickness and touch, but also I took an older wooden stick and cut the blade in half. After 10 or 15 minutes with a golf ball, a normal blade seem huge. Also it forces you to cup the ball more and keep it more towards the heel of the stick. hockechamp14 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2006 "I'd rather waste money than time, because if you waste money you waste money, but if you waste time, you've wasted part of your life"I bought the set last week, and when I get to use it and stuff I'll comment on it. It's probally delivered at my mom's house and I'll likely be able to use it this weekend. :DI've used many products, like stick weights, golf balls, sweedish balls, and the smart ball and they all have thier merits and made me better with a good program. I'll see how the kwik hands go.

jerrysjet 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2006 I purchased the system a week ago and have used it every day as the program suggests. You are supposed to do at least 30 reps with each ball (4 of them) which equals 120 reps, and you are supposed to do 3 sets of these reps equaling 360 reps per day.The heavy balls are workout balls and build wrist forearm strength. The program states that you will not see a quick fix, that you will see improvemnet in handling a golf ball after one week and will start to see improvemnet on ice after about three weeks. This is similiar to what I have read about in making something a habit so many reps for so many consecutive days, no missing any days or you have to start over to make it a habit.I was on the ice today, I work at a rink so I can get on by myself, I have had terrible hands and am not very good at stickhandling but i felt a noticeable difference today and its been a week. I will post more as I get deeper into the program. I am going to be dilligent about not missing a day.

natty15d 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2010 im just back from 3 years away from Hockey, played for 16 years before that and was never a good stickhandler so decided its got to change.Loved the idea behind the system and wanted to give it a tryi tried to buy the system, but being in the UK, postage was just crazy due to the weight of the balls.Did a bit of research on the net and found out that the balls are actually steel grinding balls, and i was able to buy 2 full sets + 3 extra pro weight practice balls in the uk for £26 delivered :)Ive been following the vids on Invodo http://www.invodo.com/Kwik-Hands-Stick-Han...stem/p/ZEA10005and using some from skinner hockey stickhandling DVDsbeen using the system 4-5 times a week for 3 weeks now and its started helping my stickhandling.im already starting to notice little improvements when i get back on the ice, better passing and my puck control has improved, feel much more comfortable with the puck.still a long way to go but for me its working and im sticking with it.
