Tapered blades are typically of the short hosel variety although there are long hosel tapered blades as well.

The shorter hosel helps to lower the kick point of the stick when combined with a tapered shaft.

Most standard blades have long hosels.

I like the bit of added flex in the wood long hosel blades. It's easier to get a little flex on a snap shot or wrister than making the shaft flex on a short hosel blade.
