Raptors Gave up Jalen Rose and a first round pick and an undisclosed amount of money to the Knicks today, for Antonio Davis

what do you guys think? Good to get rid of his Salary, but was Antonio Davis a big enough pick up for a team thats struggling?

Jalen Rose has been playing really good lately

Rose is useless for them. He isn't part of a future plan, while being hit and miss all season. The team will struggle with or without him in the line-up, so it's not a big issue.

Raptors have a good core of young players now with Bosh, Villanueva, Grahm, and Calderon. If the three rookies continue to develop, raps will have a solid future. Mo Pete is having a career year, as is Mike James. The key this offseason will be to resign James to keep Bosh happy, make a GOOD draft choice, and hopefully use the cap room to pick up 1 or 2 players (preferably a youngster with potential and a veteran) since davis' contract ends at the end of this season as well. dont forget the raps still have roko ukic (cant spell his name), 6'5" pg they drafted that plays in europe. now if only some good players are willing to come to toronto

Knicks take on another bloated contract, they will never be able to get out from under the Cap.

Off Topic just a little bit but is it just me who thinks NBAer's get paid a little too much

It isn't about Davis at all though, it's about unloading a player who made 15+ million a year, so young guys can get some time. Davis may be able to help some of the younger PFs like Boss or CV, but even if he doesn't, it gets more floor time for young guys and forces them into the spotlight.

- Yes, the NBA players get paid way too much.

especially for how much they do. their biggest risk in play is stepping on someone's foot and spraining their ankle

jalen rose was a solid player for the raps, but they were paying too much for him, and didn't need a "solid player", since they don't really have a hope of playoff success. the cap space is necessary to keep bosh around, as echi24 said. it's also probably about time for antionio davis to retire, considering he's almost 40, is getting an average of 5 ppg, which is pretty pathetic for his salary, and dislikes canada.

It was Denver's #1, 3mil, and Rose for Davis

Rose only has one more year left on his deal, AND they have to give up a 1. I don't think the raptors care.

Yeah, which have made it a good trade if Denver was completely horrible. But it'll probably end up being around 12-13. So the Knicks now have two first round picks this year that aren't theres. And that's on the heels of a surprising draft.

this is a good deal for the raptors, they get rid of roses contract, 15 million for a bench player... and they get davis whose contract expires this year.. so they clear what ever davis makes and 15 million from their salary..

i think this is the only 1st rounder the knicks have now.. they gave theirs up in the eddy curry trade.

San Antonio's from the Nazr trade.

And, in Rose's defense, there's no way he should have been a bench player on that horrible team. I'm just surprised a contender didn't try to get him with Toronto throwing more cash their way. Dallas could use him.

I don't follow basketball that much but my general sports knowledge says that a team as bad as Toronto shouldn't be trading a first round pick, regardless of what number it may or may not be. Other than that I could care less, if there is some hidden explanation that makes sense from an NBA specific standpoint then so be it but to a casual fan like myself, it reflects badly on the organization, what doesn't though?

this is a great trade, even if jalen suddenly turns it on for the knicks. bottom line is davis' contract expires after this year, and they traded away denvers darft pick, a low pick in a weak draft year. they can resign james and look for more players to compliment their young core of players. davis could be a good leader on the team, but if not its not a huge loss.

im hoping the raps get some luck and are able to get greg oden or oj mayo in the next draft

Yes and No. Bosh (Their superstar) has said he wants to keep an upcoming UFA (possibly 2) who are going to command a fair bit. This allows them to try and sign them, with Rose, it made it alot more difficult.

I can understand how it works from a retaining players for the future standpoint but I think they are better off not wasting too much money on players within the organization, other than Bosh. Like I said before, I only watch once in a while but from the minutes I catch there is a low ceiling potential wise for everyone on the team but Bosh.

Why not deal Rose for a younger guy who can play and or get decent draft picks back for him? Just doesn't make sense when they say it makes sense financially, although they gave up money, and the Denver pick doesn't matter when their two second rounders do.
