hockechamp14 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2006 I was looking through my NHL offical record book for this season, and looked at where players have been drafted out of, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about:-the 6 players drafted out of Illinois-Chicago & St. Louis-the 5 players drafted from Pennsylvania-the 3 players drafted from babson-the player drafted from Wisconsin River Falls, San diego U, Salem State, St. Anslem, St. Thomas, Hamilton, and GreenwayMainly, how were these programs back in the day... were they D2? D1?
Project824 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2006 I'll give you what I can. I don't have the time to go and find specific names, but St. Louis and Illinois-Chicago were both NCAA DI programs for the following years:University of St. Louis - NCAA 1970-79University of Illinois-Chicago - NCAA 1979-1996They weren't powerhouses, but I'm sure they had players who had potential and did get drafted.University of Pennsylvania had a varsity team many years back, but in a time when many teams were still not governed by the NCAA. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking 30's and 40's.Babson is NCAA Division III, but is a very old institution. The NCAA didn't establish Division I, II, III until 1973. Babson still produces pros here and there, but at the UHL/CHL/ European league level, ECHL at best. Most to none of the players in DIII today are drafted. Hamilton College is also in a similar boat.I don't know about Wisconsin-River Falls, Salem St., St. Anselm, St. Thomas or Greenway, but it might be a similar situation as the other DIII's, simply before the big split in divisions by the NCAA.Who is the player who was drafted out of San Diego? I have doubts about how accurate that is, since San Diego State barely has a present day men's club team. Of course in club teams you have both your highly competitive ones, and then your run of the mill beer league teams.

The ametuer draft in the NHL wasn't established until 1969 but I guess they probally drafted the players from UPenn the first 4-5 years of the draft

hockechamp14 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2006 Are you asking what players were drafted this year, or drafted in any year? this is since 69... and I'm guessing that the schools I mentioned were reletively early in the history of the draft.
