Koivu wants a game off this tuesday.

Recommended Posts

A lot of olympians playing in the NHL, expecially Sweds and Fins wanted the game off this tuesday. I can understand the Red Wings giving the day off to 5 of their gold medal winners but Koivu wanted it off too with the habs. The Canadians are in a difficult position and they need him every game. Bob Gainey decided he would play but Koivu clearly didn't want to, as he said in a post game interview.

Considering his salary, what do you guys think of Bob Gainey's decisions?

Koivu and Gainey should announce that he is taking the night off and donating what he would have made to a youth hockey organization in the Montreal area.

He played yesterday, he wasn't obligated to go to the Olympics but he went, he didn't nurture his groin injury but he could have like Neigermayer did. He played well yesterday, let's hope he keeps it up.

I didn't see the game, but read some accounts on the Habs board...apparantly Koivu looked like he was going to fall asleep during an Intermission interview.

But...3 points...for a guy who didn't even want to be in that game....Good job.

I don't see what the big deal is. I mean how many games have Kovalev and Ribeiro taken off this year?

Ribeiro was mostly left in the stands. Kovy took about a month off for his knee surgery.
