Hart Memorial's trophy, most valuable of his team?

Recommended Posts

Its not that Jagr scores all of his team's goals, but he sets up the ones he doesn't score as well. The only other forward who I think is as valuable to his team is Thornton.

Wheres the love for Kiprusoff people? The Flames would be equal to the Blues in the standings if they didn't have Kipper keeping them in it, night in and night out. Oh by the way, he set a record for goalie wins for Calgary the other night.

I'm always surprised when I watch Calgary, I think I overrate their D, and underrate their goaltending alot. Kipper would have a shot, but I think other teams have turned it around more or "overperformed" on the back of a few players. I'd still give it to Thornton as he pulled SJ out of nowhere back into the play-offs, and they are a team that can do damage. I don't know if I can say Jagr is alot more valuable to NYR than Lundvist is.

as much as i HATE the flames i would think that kipper should get the MVP, the defence on the team is pretty good, and they have a hard working team, but they just can't put the puck in the dammd net... Kipper is the only reason why they are where they are now...

thornton in boston wasn't dissapointing at all... he had 33 points in 23 games... which isn't bad at all...

San Jose is had a big-time turn-around with him there. Thornton wasn't great in Boston, but he was FAR from bad. If we are going by pre-season predictions, Staal or Brind'Amour takes the Hart. Carolina was expected to be in the bottom 3 teams this year. I like Jagr, and he's having a great season I can't say he's done more for his team than Thornton has.

The more I think about it, I have a problem with picking a guy who only plays one end of the ice for MVP. You really need to contribute something at both ends of the ice and be a leader to qualify for the award in my opinion.

Is Staal practically out of the running because he has fallen out of the race for the Art Ross, people have seen what Brind'Amour has done or he isn't in a big enough hockey market to compete with Jagr and Kipper?

Staal's name has fallen out once Thornton and Jagr pulled away from him in the scoring race. I don't think his -5 helps him much either. I like Bind'Amour for the work he does, leading all forwards in minutes by roughly 2 min/game is an incredible stat, but his scoring is a little low for the award.

Chippa's a homer

In a related story, Elton John just called Tom Cruise a fag.

Whoa, whoa, whoa..............and I am anything but a homer when it comes to the B's, past and present.

I don't think Thornton was sulking in Boston but I think he was very disappointed in the team's start. It's hard to go by the Boston beat writers because they had an axe to grind with Joe for disappearing act on them during the last playoffs when he snuck out the backdoor after a morning skate rather than face them.

As for the Hart, I think he should get serious consideration. The Sharks are in 7th and looking to move up. Will he win, I don't know. It is pretty much a two horse race and there is an east coast bias with the voting, which could give Jagr the edge.
