V130 as a shaft

Recommended Posts

For those that have been wondering....i've been using a V130 OPS for about 2 months now. I absolutley love the stick. Unfortunately, the other night, the blade snapped on a slap shot, so i can't use it as a OPS anymore.

However, the good news, it can definitely be converted to a tapered shaft. I cut it, and the interior is smooth as can be. Found the right spot, and put a synthesis blade in.

Now, it is a littel shorter than i'd like, but it will certainly work. I'll be using it as my backup, and will switch to using my Vector 10.0 shaft as my primary.

Maybe I'm a little too old school, but what exactly are you chiseling away? I'm still a little new to fixing OPSs so I'm completely unfamiliar with this technique.

I just found an abandoned broken v130 last week and the impression I got was that I my options were either to

a) put the blade in the other end

b) cut about 2 feet off the tapered end

if you cut the blade off the OPS at the 'right' place, the hosel of the blade is still in the shaft. you have to heat, chisel, tap, whatever, the remainder of the hosel out of the shaft in order to maintain as much of the taper from the OPS as possible. if you cut the blade off the OPS above the hosel insertion point, you lose another ~2-3" of the taper on the shaft, and there's a chance that a tapered blade wont fit as well into the shaft.

FYI - the 130 does not have a hosel input into the shaft. It appears that i must be a true 1 piece design. I neded up cutting it about an inch or so below the bottom CCM label, and a tapered blade fits beautifully.

Cause4alarm, you only have to cut off that much if you are going to put a standard blade in. If you use a tapered blade, which you should, you'll be fine.

Well a true one piece stick ;)

As the name says, built in one piece not with a fused blade which you can remove.

It's not a true OPS. The blade is fused, but differently. No tenons.

JR,

I'm not doubting you, but can you explain this? If there isn't a tenon joint, how to they fuse two pieces together. I would think that it had to be a OPS.... just curious what the process is.

i did the same thing......worked great until my shaft snapped in half, lol. I had to by a tappered shaft to use the tappered blade that i had bought for my broken 130

How long did it last before snapping.

I'm debating whether to order a tapered blade or just keep the shaft as a last resort backup and only use one stick right now.

A big debate for me is whether to spend $60 getting a scicore tapered blade, or shell out a little bit more and get a Vector 6.0 OPS or some other price point stick to use as a backup to my Vector 10.0 Shaft with scicore blade.

The 130 was such a nice stick, that i'm tempted to at least give it a chance as a shaft and blade combo.
