When the President Talks to God isn't about the war. It's Oberst's personal views on how Bush runs the country. he only mentions something war-related once, but it's hardly the theme of the song.
True, but at least I am in the right decade. And it is closer than a lot of Desaparecidos.

Yea for sure man. Some Desaparecidos songs about war are Poppn' off at the F, $$$$, and a demo that never made it onto Read Music/Speak Spanish just to name a few. But hey mann at least you listen to semi-good beats.

Glad to see another real metal fan here...

"You finally made it home, draped in the flag that you fell for."

As taken from Hourglass - Lamb of God

In addition:

Ashes of the Wake - Lamb of God

Pretty much the whole eMOTIVe album by A Perfect Circle if you're looking for anti-Iraq war songs, as that is why this album was recorded.

...I also can't believe Rage Against The Machine wasn't mentioned until the 2nd page. I thought they'd be one of the first bands listed.

Need to check out 'Masters of War' by Bob Dylan

here are the lyrics:

Come you masters of war

You that build all the guns

You that build the death planes

You that build the big bombs

You that hide behind walls

You that hide behind desks

I just want you to know

I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'

But build to destroy

You play with my world

Like it's your little toy

You put a gun in my hand

And you hide from my eyes

And you turn and run farther

When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old

You lie and deceive

A world war can be won

You want me to believe

But I see through your eyes

And I see through your brain

Like I see through the water

That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers

For the others to fire

Then you set back and watch

When the death count gets higher

You hide in your mansion

As young people's blood

Flows out of their bodies

And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear

That can ever be hurled

Fear to bring children

Into the world

For threatening my baby

Unborn and unnamed

You ain't worth the blood

That runs in your veins

How much do I know

To talk out of turn

You might say that I'm young

You might say I'm unlearned

But there's one thing I know

Though I'm younger than you

Even Jesus would never

Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question

Is your money that good

Will it buy you forgiveness

Do you think that it could

I think you will find

When your death takes its toll

All the money you made

Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die

And your death'll come soon

I will follow your casket

In the pale afternoon

And I'll watch while you're lowered

Down to your deathbed

And I'll stand o'er your grave

'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Big Country's "Where The Rose Is Sown" is a great look at war from two perspectives.

It has a bold, rocking sound and starts off with sabre rattling and justification:

we're at war...all the papers say

we will win...I read today

we are strong...it wasn't us

we are right...who started this

leave your work...I just left school

leave your home...I am no fool

take up arms...it left me strong

sound alarms...the school bell rings

sons of men who stand like gods

we give life to feed the cause

and run to ground our heathen foe

our name will never die

this time will be forever

Then a bridge where the soldier realizes he might not return:

I wait here in this hole

playing poker with my soul

I hold the rifle close to me

it lights the way to keep me free

if I die in a combat zone

box me up and ship me home

and if I die and still come home

lay me where the rose is sown

edit: actually, i thnik that song was about stopping racism more than anything else...i rmb wathcing hte music video and then it was like showing people unwarping cloth's around people's eyes and each time it unravels, a diff word appears
