Roach 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2006 I am a bodybuilder and protein supplement is an important part of my life. But you must undertsand that there are many types of protein supplements. They are mainly Whey, Casein, MRPs(meal replacement) and Mass gainers. Whey protein are the most commonly used BUT to build muscles, your body needs carbs. drinking whey alone may not help pack on the mass. Try is with some bananas. Casein are slow digesting protein which I take before I go to bed and it slays in your stomach for the whole night, preventing muscle breakdown. This type of protein are used only by hard-core bodybuilders I believe. MRPs are for those people who just can't find healthy food for like lunch. These products contain protein and crabs and is good enough to substitute a meal. ( trust me i take this everyday). Mass gainers are for those who want to pack on mass and are used after workout at the gym. ( drinking this without working out is not reccomended). so I think what you need is a mass gainer after you work out if you are looking for mass. take some whey protein shakes as well just to keep your nitrogen balance so your muscles will always have protein supply. A good mass gainer is Prolab's N-Large 2 ( its the best IMO). Mew, thanks for all the information!I also lift weights and take whey on top of eating 5-6 meals a day as well.I was told that Weight Gainers, although they work, are filled with a lot of fat and calories. Would you know about this?

tume 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2006 it's actually been found that chocolate milk has the best (without going into really scientific supplements) combination of carbs to protein for after a workout to help your muscles build and recover. Milk chocolate definitely ISN'T the best after workout. Firstable amount of fat in chocolate slows digestion down. Secondly, milk's proteins are (like mew1838 said) casein, which is one of the slowest digesting proteins out there. Casein is mostly used in night proteins, or during the day. cobrAA 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 Didn't want to start it back over. I was watching what i was eating since like 2 month(trying to not eat shit, just eat 3 meal, breakfast, dinner, supper). I'm 17yr 6f-6'1 190, I found that I got bigger but now that i read what you are saying. To REALLY see difference(maybe my thing is just mental...), You need to eat a lot, to get bigger, but if you do eat a lot, you can't really lose your fat so it is either you want to gain muscle or lose weight. At 15 and 16 i was working out the summer to try to lose my baby fat(at 10 i was around 5ft 5 and 160-170, now i'm 190 6ft. anyways on picture you can see i still have some baby fat) Now i'm going for my 17 and felt like i could start thinking about gaining muscle but it seem i'm wrong... cobrAA 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 Also, my grand-father told me to eat plain pasta with no butter or sauce before going to the gym. Could it be better to take your protein after the gym?Everybody seem to say ''drink a shake after your gym''
Roach 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 I read somewhere that it's best to take protein and carbs right after your work-out or within an hour max if you can't right after.

cobrAA 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2006 Oh okay, Sorry for my ignorance. Since my young age, i train with nothing special except water loll, i don't want to use drug but natural food such as pasta and stuff like this. Maybe it could help me to get a little help from the protein.
thenizzle 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2006 yea, you should definately start taking some fake crap like shakes or bars. Creatine also helps. Im 16yr, 6'0, and 195. I definately still have some baby fat, but I eat about 200 g of protein a day and lift a ton, and let me tell you, you can bulk up realll fast if you do that. I could easily gain 3+ (probably more) in a week if i wanted to.
Gongshow11 1 Report post Posted July 24, 2006 Creatine at 16 isnt good as it tends to stiffen up joints, and if you mess yourself up now, you're done for a while. If you're going to go creatine, dont go monohydrate. Try Fuel Injection v12 by SAN productions, it's real potent and effective. Dont worry its a powder
