Looking for hockey in Calgary

Recommended Posts

I'm moving to Calgary next week, the rest of the family will follow when school is finished.

Where do I sign up the kid for minor hockey? and when is the deadline?

Where and when are the stick-and-puck and pickup sessions (ice)? Are there sessions for families / kids?

What is a relaxed rec adult league?

Which places are good for sharpenings? Are there good 2nd-hand equipment places? Equipment repair places?

Is there a Frappier skating treadmill location in Calgary? Which gyms are good?

Thanks in advance...

Kevin, drop me an e-mail and I can prolly help with some of your q's.

The NSD location that has the treadmill has one of the 2 best sharpeners in town the other is up in the Northwest part of town.

Minor Hockey is pretty much done for this year (My sons team did a 2 and out in the playoffs AAAAARRRgh!) There is some AAA stuff for the younger guys and I could probably do some sniffin around for other stuff.

Anyway drop me a note if ya like and I can get you some more info.

Brent

I just arrived in Calgary. So, hoping I'm not being too general, my wife would like to be in the NW somewhere. I work in the NE.

Just my 2 cents but SE is where you want to live. I used to live in Sundance and because of their community lake (private) in the winter you could often find pickup games on the frozen lake. Midnapore and Bonavista also have lakes (again private for residents only). Not sure about any communities with lakes in the NE or NW.

The lake communities are great in the summer too with their own beaches and you can rollerblade in the spot where the public skating rink is in the winter.

Well right now I'm in the NW end of Cowtown. Hopefully getting an appartment there.

Looking for league or PU?

Have you ever gone to Done Right Sports on 52nd Street SE? Dave is the only person I trust to sharpen my skates in Calgary.

I've been there twice, once to fix my skates and once to get some pre-made palms. Nice place, didn't know they sharpened skates too.

Thanks!

It's a bit of a hike for me, too. I live in the deep SW but there aren't that many good sharpeners in the city so a quick jaunt up the Deerfoot is a small price to pay for a good sharpening.
