I read your post about the black holders on the xx's Devilsrule711, You said you just covered everything with tape and a bag did you just paint over the rivets or did you try and cover them or would it really even matter if you got paint on them?

If it helps any i just taped off the boot, and the steel. Didnt bother to tape off the rivets.

it wont matter if you paint over the rivets

besides idoubt there is a way to tape off teh rivets and not the part of the holder around it effectively

I just thought like he knew a place you could get them at which would save me the trouble of having to paint them but o well i'll just stick with the painting idea

A friend of mine helped me with mine, here's a couple of things I learned-

- Take the holder off of the boot prior to painting. If you keep the holder on it is much more difficult to paint and maintain (keep from chipping) because any time you crack a holder paint will come with it when you pull it off.

- When you paint the sole of the boot (if that is what you want to do), protect your boot and felt with a plastic grocery bag. Paint will get on the rest of your boot if you don't.

- Don't use normal masking tape to tape off areas. Use automobile masking tape, it is much more pliable and comes off cleaner.

- Give your boot at least two days to dry. Pulling the tape off earlier or setting it on another surface will affect the finish.

- No need to sand, but you should use an amonia based cleaner on the paint areas prior to painting.

- Krylon Fusion works well.

Hope this helps.

To color holders, you could use the same method as you would to dye a plastic lacrosse stick. Put RIT brand dye into boiling water, and soak the holders in it for an extended period of time. You could do crazy things with fades, cutout decals, etc... I'm assuming many of these can be achieved on holders, if they are a DuPont plastic or something of that nature. Keep in mind, the RIT dye soaks into the plastic, whereas spraypaint is a surface coloring that could chip off. The color of rit dye may not be as vibrant initially, but will remain the same after much wear and tear...

Here's some examples of lacrosse head dyes:
